"What do you say, bellissima?"
"Stop calling me that, Arius."
"Over my dead body, wife."

ARIUS
I don’t think.
I can’t think.
My lips were on hers before I even fully realized what was happening. The kiss was sudden, a rush of heat and raw need.
Her body tensed against mine, a soft gasp escaping her as though she hadn't expected it, and for a moment, I wondered if she'd push me away. But she didn't. She stayed there, her lips soft beneath mine.
I pulled her closer, feeling the warmth of her skin through the thin fabric of her dress. The air around us seemed to disappear, leaving only the two of us in a world that suddenly felt too small, too fragile.
I could feel her hesitation, her uncertainty, but also something else—a spark, maybe.
I pulled back just enough to look at her face. Absolutely beautiful. "Bellissima."
"I—" I didn't get to finish the sentence before her lips were on mine again.
Tentative at first, barely moving, as if she wasn't sure whether to follow or resist. I don't blame her. Something in the way I held her seemed to give her permission to let go. Slowly, she melted against me.
The tension leaving her body, her hands moving up to rest against my chest. I deepened the kiss slightly, and she followed, her lips parting ever so gently as if allowing me to enter a space neither of us had fully prepared for.
Every movement, every shift of her body against mine made my heart race faster.
When I pulled away just enough to breathe, her eyes were wide, lips slightly parted, her breath coming in shallow gasps.
The silence hung thick between us, neither of us speaking, but both of us feeling it—this shift, this new understanding that neither of us had anticipated.
I was still reeling from the kiss, still trying to make sense of the strange tension between us, but there was something in the way she looked at me, something that made me think maybe—just maybe, this won't be an inconvenience after all.
