"Where were you?" Derek asked as Denver stumbled into the house the following morning, her hair a mess and in the same clothes she left in.

He was met with a glare and a growl, telling him she didn't want to talk. Denver had fallen asleep, her head on Peter's chest, and Jess, the nurse, didn't have the heart to wake her.

Denver had woken up today to Peter's heartbeat stronger than ever, as they locked eyes. The same eyes she remembered flashed red the night before.

The memory slammed into the front of her head remembering that her husband was in fact the alpha they had been hunting down, that had been keeping an eye on her, that had killed Laura, and so many others in town, but she still didn't have an answer as to why.

It was now Denver's turn to play the devils advocate, tiptoeing around the fact that she knew who the alpha was, and not alerting Derek to this new information. She knew Derek would go after Peter in an instant, and in his current state, he had little to no chance of survival.

But also, she knew she had to protect her nephew as well, because well, learning that her husband had murdered of of their few remaining family members just to get to the Alpha's power, she realized this Peter was not her Peter. Something had changed, and she didn't know what, yet.

She knew he had power, from the few times they had gotten close, or gotten glances of him. The people he's killed, he had to of been powerful. It in turn made her wondering why he hadn't bitten more than just Scott. Was he relying on herself and Derek?

All these theories and questions raced around in her head, giving her a headache.

Derek followed his aunt with his eyes, knowing her silence was normal, but she was usually happier after visiting Peter. 'Did something happen?' Derek thought to himself, worried slightly for his uncle.

"Denver-" "Can I be left alone for two minutes?" Denver snapped. "Not when you disappear for a night." "Don't be stupid. You do what you always do. You called the hospital to see if I was there." Denver told him, though he didn't look ashamed in the slightest.

"You disappeared. What did you want me to do?" "I want you to trust me, Derek." "I trusted Laura, and look where that got her. The alpha is still out there. We don't know who it's gonna attack next." Derek told her, not noticing how her eyes saddened a bit.

"I have a theory." Denver told him, trying to steer her nephew away from his uncle, though it would end up doing the opposite.

"You know Scott called me last night." "Was he looking for me?" Denver asked and Derek rolled his eyes. "He wanted to learn how to control it. I said I would teach him."

"When? Between trying to track down the alpha, steering clear of the hunters, not outing Scott, trying to keep the idiot from outing himself, and you know getting at least four hours of sleep and a decent meal in, you're booked, Derek." Denver told him as she threw her hands up.

"After he gets out of work." Derek said, thinking he had this all figured out. Denver's hand cradled her head as she closed her eyes with a heavy sigh. "You really think he isn't going to tell Stiles and and the dumbass isn't going to think he can fix Scott's werewolf problems by his little lonesome before you get your clawed hands on him. Derek, sometimes you're reminding me why I don't like you." Denver told him.

"Why?" "Because it reminds me you are your father's son too." "What's up with all the shit on my dad?" "That's for me to know and gripe about, and for you to keep wondering. If your mother never mentioned it, there was a reason. That doesn't mean you get to be stupid. We both know Stiles has whipped up some contraption that is going magically fix Scott. We need to find them and make sure nothing goes wrong." Denver said as she grabbed a new set of clothes from her closet, shewing her nephew from her room.

"We leave in twenty." Denver called through the door.

Derek had been the one to think about Lacrosse and how it seemed to be his trigger the most, so that's where they ended up, just on the outside of viewing range in the tree's.

"Is he fucking serious?" Denver watched as Stiles duck taped Scott's hands together. Derek didn't comment, but his small grin gave his answer.

The two watched as Stiles geared up, getting his stick ready. As soon as the first ball flew, hitting Scott, Denver's hands flew to her mouth, covering her laugh. She couldn't believe what she was witnessing right now. Every ball that connected with the boy, the two wolves would flinch, hearing how the balls would ricochet off.

Seeing someone off in the distance watch the boys, Denver's eyes focused in. "I'll be back." She told Derek as she made her way around, keeping out of Scott's eyesight.

Clamping a hand on Jackson's shoulder, the boy jumped and just about swung before he realized who it was. "Denver?" "Hey Jackson. I never got to ask you how you were doing after everything." She said and he squinted his eyes, shifting between her and the two idiots on the field.

"Fine. Why?" "And Lydia? You both were pretty freaked out." "She's fine. Why do you care. You show up and disappear, why now?" Jackson asked. "Right place right time I guess. I'm glad you're doing well, Jackson. And I hope that mountain lion gets caught soon." She said with tilt of her lip that didn't get noticed by Jackson, but by another teen.

Scott noticed the female Hale talking to Jackson, listening into their conversation. With a hit to the groin, Denver saw Scott fall, hearing his heart beat skyrocket, his hands tearing through the tape. Denver's eyes snapped to the forest where she could see Derek ready to take Scott down if he exposed himself.

"It was good talking to you." Denver bid the teen goodbye, seemingly disappearing into the tree's again, leaving the teenage jock confused, Denver watching with narrowed eyes as Scott's heartbeat slowed and he stopped himself from changing.

"He's gonna get himself killed." Derek hissed. "You wouldn't have done something similar?" Denver asked. "Not so public. He's an idiot." "He's a kid, Derek. And progress is progress." Denver relented, smiling at the young wolf who never saw the proud look in her eyes.
