After a long day of work, all I wanted was some proper rest. I began to pack my things, getting ready to head home.
I was exhausted as I stepped out of the office.
Outside, I saw Jenni just about to leave in her car. I hadn't even known she owned one-and not just any car, but a Benz C300. My dream car.
I couldn't help but wonder how she could afford something so expensive. Clearly, there was a lot I didn't know about her.
She offered me a ride home, asking me to get in. Jenni always seemed to enjoy being around me. I wasn't quite sure what she saw in me, but she genuinely liked my company.
"Where have you been since morning? I've been looking for you," she said, continuing before I could fully respond.
"I've been around, running errands. You know how the boss is-always finding something to keep me busy," I replied.
I went on, complaining about him-how bossy and arrogant he could be. "How can someone be so nice one minute and then act like they were sent to make life miserable the next? He's honestly so annoying most of the time," I said.
Jenni just laughed as I vented. Then she said calmly, "Relax, baby girl. It's just a matter of time. You'll understand him better and maybe even start to like him. He's not as bad as you think."
I scoffed. "You think if I get close to him, I'll start to like him? Never. I could never love someone like that. Yes, he's the boss, but his pride is too much. He's really getting on my nerves."
She gave me a calm look, and I sighed deeply. "How do you even manage to work with him without going crazy?" I asked.
"That's because I know him better than anyone-and I understand him," she replied.
I turned to her, curious. "How do you know so much about him?"
"Because he's my cousin," she said simply. "His dad and my mum are siblings."
I was stunned. "Oh my goodness, I had no idea. I'm sorry for everything I said about him."
"Relax," she said with a smile. "It's nothing. I'm not going to tell him."
As I sat there, it all started to make sense-how she tolerated him so well, and even the kind of car she drove. Clearly, there was a lot more to Jenni-and my boss-than I had realized.
