I took a nap as soon as I got home from school and started writing when I woke up. I closed my diary and put it in my nightstand. I hopped off my bed and stretched. I walk out of my room and head to the kitchen. I opened the pantry looking for a snack.

"Good afternoon sleeping beauty," I turned around to see my mom, "How did you sleep?"

I shrugged my shoulders feeling too tired to open my mouth.

"How was school?" She asked.

"It was ok, could've been better though. My English teacher keeps picking on me. I'm ninety-nine percent sure he's a pedophile," I said thinking about him. No man in his late twenties should be close friends with ninth graders.

"You're so dramatic," she said, chuckling. I wasn't. "I hope you know your dad wanted to talk to you before he left".

"About what?" I asked.

"Your trip to Nigeria. He said it was important".

"What did he say?" I said with a little bit of excitement. I was hoping he'd let me go early. I really wanted to see my grandmother.

"He ain't say, talk to him about it. He should be home pretty soon". She said while walking out the kitchen.

I grabbed some sour patch kids and headed to the living room. I turned on the tv and watched 'The Game'. After one episode, I heard the front door open. I paused the tv and waited to see who it was. My dad walked in and saw me staring at him.

"What did you wanna talk about?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.

"Hi dad". He said, sighing.

"Hi dad, what did you wanna talk about?"

"No hug?" He said, opening his arms. I rolled my eyes as I got up from the couch. I gave him a big hug as he kissed my forehead. "I love you". He said squeezing me.

"I love you too but you makin' me nervous. Why did you wanna talk about my trip?" I said looking up at him. He always acts like this when he can't get me what I want and what I want is to see my grandma.

"You can't go to Nigeria". He said.

"Why?!?" I yelled.

"It's hard to explain but, your mother wants to stand trial to get custody of you and for now, you can't leave the state". As he said those words, my whole world came crashing down on me.
