After my first day of school in Rochester, Sade wanted to take me dress shopping for her wedding. She thought it would be a good bonding experience after our last talk. Now, I'm sitting in the car with  her enjoying the silence. Then she started talking.

"So, how was your first day of school?" She asked.

"It was ok I guess." I said lying through my teeth. If I have to go back to that white school thinking they're better than everyone. I might lose my head.

"That's good! I know that you started really late in the school year so I hope you have a better start next year. Not that I think there will be a next year but all I can do is hope."

"Yeah, sure...."

We sat in silence until we reached our destination. It looked like a small boutique and didn't seem to have a lot of people in it. We walked out the car and started heading inside the shop. Some white lady walks up to us and starts talking.

"Hello, welcome to Dazzle Boutique. My name is Gwen and I'm going to be helping you today. What kind of outfit are you looking for?" She said, looking between Sade and I.

"She's looking for a dress for a wedding." Sade said with a smile.

"Ok, that's fun! What type of dress are you looking for?" Gwen asked me.

"She's looking for a-" She started but I cut her off.

"I'm just looking for something simple."

"Ok, well follow me." She said, starting to walk to the corner of the store. "Let me know if you need anything!" She said then started walking away.

I started browsing around and picked up a few dresses to try on.

"About what I said a week ago, I'm sorry that you took offense to what I said. I didn't know you were going to take what I said to heart." Sade said with a half smile. I didn't say anything cause I could spot a fake apology from a mile away. "What about this one?" Sade asked, holding a purple silk dress with spaghetti straps.

"Sure I guess." I said, taking the dress and heading to the dressing room.

After spending two hours trying on  dresses, I went with a plain long black dress with spaghetti straps.

Today is Sade and Justin's wedding day. I was at the church, waiting for the ceremony to start. I wanted to sit in the back but my grandma made me sit in the front. People were coming up to me and talking to me. Most of them I didn't even know. I felt a tap on my shoulder and I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before I turned around. When I opened them, I saw my favorite cousin, Claudia. We hugged and started rocking side to side. I haven't seen her since I was eight because her dad called my dad a fat lipped pig. He really took that to heart.

"Claud! I haven't seen you in so long." I said as we started letting each other go.

"I know right?! I assume it was because of what my dad said to your dad."

"It definitely is. He still talks about it till this day. He's such a big baby."

"The real question is what are you doing here at Sade's wedding?" She asked while sitting next to me.

"Custody battle." I said while rolling my eyes.

Claudia opened her mouth to talk but the music started playing letting us know the wedding was about to start. After a while, the doors opened revealed the best man and maid of honor. Then the rest of the wedding party. Mia and Mary came throwing rose petals after the wedding party finished lining up. Once the twins lined up, Sade stood at the doorway. She was wearing a simple dress that had a deep V-cut and no straps. Once she reached the altar, the pastor started talking. I took a deep breath knowing how long this was going to take. I hate weddings.

12:38 pm

After what felt like a million years, we finally made it to the reception.  A few minutes ago, my grandma handed Maverick and his diaper bag  to me to fix a problem with the wedding coordinator. In the meantime, Claud and I have been catching up over the past few years. We were talking for a while until we both noticed a bad smell. We both scrunched our faces.

"Ew, you smell that shit?" Claud asked me.

"Yeah, I think it's Maverick." I smelled his bottom and got a strong smell of shit in my face. "My god it is! I will be back, I'm gonna go change him." I said while grabbing his diaper bag. I adjusted him on my hip and started walking towards the bathroom. After moving through the crowds, I started heading to the bathroom until I felt a hand grab my shoulder. I turned around to see the man that changed my life. Marcus.

"Hey Brooklyn, long time no see." He said with a smile.

I didn't respond. I didn't know what to say. I wouldn't ever think I would see him again. My worst nightmare was standing right in front of me.

"Look at you, you've grown so much. All in the right places." He said, eyeing me up and down.

"I have to go." I said just above a whisper. I went to the bathroom praying he left when I was done. When I came back out, I went back to Claudia trying to act like everything was normal.

8:55 pm

"Yo!" Claud said, snapping me back into reality for the twentieth time today. "You good?"

"Yeah, what did you say?"

"I have to go but I'll text you." She said as she pulled me into a hug. "See you later."

"See you later." I said.

We let go of each other and walked our separate ways in the parking lot. I walked to the back of the parking lot where my grandma was parked. While walking, I bumped into some man and noticed he dropped something. I picked it up and read it out of curiosity.
