I wrote a poetry book based around miscarriages to give a voice to those who have experienced the pain of miscarriage. This book is intended to support those who have experienced loss, to provide space for others to understand and empathize, and to create a safe place for conversation about a difficult topic. The poems in the book come from personal experience, research, and stories I have heard from those impacted by miscarriage. Writing this book has allowed me to bear witness to these stories of heartbreak and hope, and to ensure that those who have experienced the pain of miscarriage will never feel alone.
A man and woman struggling, To move past a loss so troubling, Have both been set adrift, Without a sign of a lift.
For the woman, a stoic veneer, To mask her inner fear, The man, with a heart of stone, Tries not to break or moan.
The fog of what could've been, Casts a cloud from within, On a night not one seeking peace, From the pain neither shall cease. A room of sadness and gloom, It's hard to bloom, But yet though there is a void, The future remains to be enjoyed.
We walked a path of pain and sorrow, Filled with grief and loss.
We wept beyond a silent tomorrow, In a love so tender and raw. Weave the memories of a righteous journey, Thoughts of hearts too soft to sustain.
Still saddled with the somber story, Of the love that could not remain. Memories of hope and fear, Seep through our veins and bind us here.
Thoughts of joy and moments so dear, Now lost in a frozen tear. The shadows envelope our spirits cold, Catastrophe too heavy to behold. Light dissipates from so far away, When hope slowly fades away.
Spoken in broken tongues of love, Emotion and passion a tangled mess. We must find the strength to rise above, As we learn to forget about the rest.
We still move forward in the ways of our own, Though it takes time to ascend. We must keep our faith in the unknown, To live a life beyond the end.
Once so full of life and hope A spark of creation and love's elope. A cherished dream for these two brought so close and then so soon.
Blows the cold wind of sorrow. What was their joy today is their morrow pain cutting through every fiber as if a deep wound that won't heal forever.
Grieving the loss of what could have been trying the best to start anew again.
Their hearts are pushed so hard to carry on writing a new story that's yet to be sung. The connection that ran so deep might have been very hard to keep. But it might be the only way to bravely face the rainy day. So embrace each other and hold tight This dark sorrow though hard to fight It will pass and soon the sun will come. For their new chapter together still to be done.
You built a life with love and laughter, One of dreams and bright tomorrows; The delight that both of you would savor sprang from hearts so full of sorrow. But the dream was soon in tatters, When hopes crashed down, shattered; Misery that filled life in droves, As the cause of grief was discovered. The empty cradle that waited still, Rallied memories of times of joy; But hope soon abandoned them to their will; Tears filled her eyes, her blood turned to soil. He could not find the strength or hope to face the grief and suffering etched on her face. She in turn fears his pride and manhood's grace, Struggle to move on, their lives a private race. Today together they still find solace, As dusk spreads across the setting sky; In the spark of a shared glance, Hearts and souls mended to a sigh.
We spoke of her with sorrow in our hearts and tears that we could no longer start. Because the dream of us, just us two, felt like it was no longer so true. Yet we both tried so hard to be strong despite the waves that propelled us along. We found calm in the deeper of our breaths. Reminders of life, past near deaths we made efforts to look for blessings and to increase our inner bless-ings Little by little we brought our souls back As we shared our sorrow and resisted the attack The real beginning of our love’s healing From those painful times of our revealing Transcended with words of comfort and joys For us to reach new moments and our boy The pregnancy, despite our hearts’ hope Took a turn amidst life’s slippery slope The miscarriage took us into despair But also reminded us to show more care We mourn as we learn to accept The unpredictability of life’s lies and deceit Still we move forward with our one heart Full of strength, compassion and smart We have found new gratitude in our love’s story As we heal each day, a new light
