Yaz POV:
I slowly regained consciousness, rubbing my throbbing head. As my vision cleared, I noticed a piece of paper floating by the window. It dawned on me: we were underwater in the van. My heart raced as I felt water rising around my feet, flooding the van fast.
Ben groaned, coming to his senses and clutching his head. "Sammy," I called, turning to check on her in the back seat. She woke up, gripping my hand tightly. The bellowing of the Becklespinax outside grabbed my attention. I glanced back, seeing it struggle to swim towards the surface.
"Okay, okay. So let's just, um..." Ben stammered, choking on his nerves. "What do we do?" he asked, panic evident in his voice.
The Becklespinax roared and sank down. "Now's our chance," I said, unbuckling my seatbelt. Suddenly, the van jolted as the creature struck it, sending us upward and changing our position.
Sammy grunted, struggling with her seatbelt. "It's stuck! My seatbelt's stuck!" she cried, panic rising.
I pushed her hands aside and freed her buckle. Holding her face, I brought her to meet my gaze. "Hey, hey! You're okay, Sammy," I reassured her, gently stroking her cheek. "We can do this, but I need you to listen to me. Okay?" My calm voice soothed her. "Good. We need to—"
The Becklespinax collided with the van again, cutting me off. Its tail slammed onto the windshield, cracking it and letting water gush in, filling the van even more. "No, no, no," Sammy cried, terror in her voice. "We'll get through this," I promised, bracing for our next move.

Y/N POV:
I sat in the back of the car with Kenji while Darius rode shotgun. The mystery man who had saved us seemed increasingly familiar, but I couldn't place him. Kenji, beside me, was on the verge of a breakdown, his panic attack escalating.
"Uh, thanks for saving us back there, sir," Darius said, his tone grateful.
The man cleared his throat. "Yeah, yeah. It was the least I could do," he replied, his voice rough.
I narrowed my eyes, scrutinizing him. "Why do you look familiar?" I asked, noticing his sudden nervousness.
Before the man could respond, Kenji's breathing grew shaky and tears welled up in his eyes. I touched his shoulder, realizing he was going into shock. "Pull over!" I ordered the man.
He shook his head, fear evident in his expression. "Not a snowball's chance," he retorted. "Do I need to remind you what happened to that guy back there?" He referenced the chaos at the halfway house.
Kenji clutched my shirt, his breathing becoming increasingly erratic. Darius, catching on to the urgency, shouted, "Pull over, now!"
Darius's commanding tone was enough to make the man pull over. As soon as the car stopped, Kenji burst out and collapsed to the ground, breaking down in tears. He wept and sobbed, repeating, "He's gone... He's gone..."
"Is he okay?" the man asked, his concern evident.
"That 'guy' was his father," Darius explained as we walked over to Kenji.
I crouched down beside Kenji, who had tears streaming down his face. Gently, I placed my hand on his shoulder. Kenji looked up, his voice choked with grief. "He's... He's gone," he repeated, his speech barely above a whisper.
I pulled Kenji into a tight embrace, stroking his back as he sobbed uncontrollably. "I know, buddy. I've been there," I said, trying to comfort him. "It's okay. We're here for you."
