Laying in her bed, the thoughts that swarmed her head kept her awake. Not a lingering fatigue was felt through her mind.
What did she mean by "waiting for her"? Why did her whole life shift in a day? Did she just lose her best friend? Did she lose everything they had built around that?
Her phone buzzed 4 times in a row before Izzie decided to look at it. Kate sent her 4 different articles reading:
"Paige Bueckers comes to Iowa for basketball or the basketball player?"
"How will Mayfield perform being pushed to play against her childhood best friend after their reunion?"
"Isabella Mayfield in a UConn sweater with number 5 plastered all over?"
"New Netflix documentary will spill all there is to know about the peculiar relationship of Isabella Mayfield and Paige Bueckers"
What. In. The. World.
Izzie threw her phone on her bed, for it to bounce back and stumble to the floor.
More buzzing was heard from her floor. She lets out a loud groan as she smacks her pillow to her face.
A knock was heard from the door, pulling her away from her self-hatred. She opened it leaving Kate and her small smile behind it.
"I was thinking about you and I was pretty sure leaving you alone would not be a good idea." She smiled because Kate Martin knew nothing except smiling. "And I'm not sure whether this surprise is a good idea in the long run, but for your current mood, I believe it to be good."
Izzie furrowed her eyebrows wondering what she could have possibly done.
"Surprise!" KK and Paige said in unison as Kate let them into the doorway.
"Slumber party!"
That's when she noticed the blankets and pillow they each held. Izzie could not do anything but laugh and let them in. KK and Paige started bickering, as they always do, trying to get their air mattress to inflate.
"I don't know much but one thing that I know for sure is that the only two people in this world that instantly make your eyes light up are Caitlin Clark and that blonde girl over there," Kate puts her arm around my shoulder, seeing right through me.
"Thanks, Kate. You are the only friend I need in this life."
"How are you gonna live when I graduate?" She jokes.
"I won't have to know because you are staying until I leave." Izzie smiles up to her friend who graduated this year.
Only good fun filled her dorm. She felt lighter than an hour prior but her heart still felt heavy.
"Kate you're sleeping with me right?"
"Woah there, junior! You are a little too young for me sweetie,"
"Ugh, in my bed I mean! You are sleeping in my bed! Not Paige, okay?" Izzie grunts at the confused girl. "I just don't want drama. Sleeping in the same bed would cause my head to explode with unknowing feelings. Im not dealing with that tonight."
It only took a few more minutes before everyone got settled into their beds. Paige seemed a bit disappointed when Kate took the right side of Izzie's bed which used to be hers. Isabella felt better being surrounded by such good people. KK and Paige were so funny together she had to visit the bathroom several times. Kate was always there for everyone, and this was the prime example of why Izzie loved her so much. She knew that tonight, she needed lightness. She wanted to chill out and laugh. Kate knew that because she was always there for everybody. She couldn't believe this was her last season along her side.
