OPINION: YESENIA CUEVAS' PROMOTION IS JUST ANOTHER DECISION IN BAD CALLS MADE BY THE SCUDERIA.

That's what the headlines had been a mere few hours after 24-year-old Yesenia Cuevas had officially signed onto the AlphaTauri F1 team, as none other than Pierre Gasly's replacement after his move to Alpine.

It wasn't a surprise, not really. The press were a pack of wolves, always lying in wait until their next meal came walking by—unassuming and unprepared—then they pounced. And when they bit, it was gruesome. Nary was there a time when their victims came out of their attacks unscathed.

Luckily for her, Yesenia had learned the art of dealing with predators at such a young age that now, instead of scars they leave mere scratches. She holds her head up high and remains unbothered by their whispers. Their assumptions. Their conclusions.

It didn't matter. She knew the truth and whatever new web of lies they would think of would remain simply that—lies.

1 NEW MESSAGE.

That didn't stop Yesi from sighing as her phone lit up with yet another congratulatory message from some family member or another. It wasn't that she wasn't proud or happy to have finally made it to Formula One, because she was. She's worked her entire life to get to this point—albeit starting later than most—and now she was finally here. She just wished that she had the opportunity to plan how to tell all her friends and family herself, rather than having them find out through the press.

Once again, the media cesspool spoils what should've been a new, exciting, and personal chapter of her life.

Shoving her phone in her pocket, she said,"Do you think I can get away with ignoring all of them for a month and then just randomly messaging back one day 'Hey! Sorry for not responding, I've been super busy!' or is that too tacky?"

A snort to her left caused Yesenia to look up from where she was wallowing on the couch of her hotel room's small living area.

"You can't be serious," Her PR manager, Ramona Rincón, said in Spanish. She barely spared Yesi a glance, too busy doing something or the other on her phone.
