CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
❛ back home ❜AS YOU AWAKENED, you were immediately blinded by the florescent lights of the hospital room you resided in. You blinked, struggling to recall the full events that had taken place this past week. You remembered being taken in the alleyway, as well as snippets of the torture you had endured. The villains that had taken you formulated a weapon to take away quirks, and you were their test dummy. It all felt like a fever dream, yet the pain that still lingered throughout your body confirmed it was all too real.
"You're finally up." You jolt upwards, immediately regretting your actions as a sharp pain shot through your body. "Jeez, stop moving so much." You lock eyes with the blonde that stood at your bedside. Katsuki stared down at you, his eyes raking over your battered body. His eyes landed onto the large bruise that wrapped itself around your neck. He gritted his teeth, as if he was struggling to fight back surpassed anger. He couldn't stand to see you in such a pitiful state. He was used to your bright personality, and your quick-witted responses to each of his insults. To see someone as kind, as well powerful as yourself to be put in such a state— well, it quite frankly pissed him off.
"... what happened to me ..." You whispered in a hoarse voice, your throat dry. "... where's the girl?" Bakugo didn't respond. He didn't know how to answer that question. Nobody knew what you had experienced, you'd just woken up. The girl was safe, but he figured that Recovery Girl could break that down for you. You've been put in a medically-induced coma for about a week, yet they couldn't figure out the extent of the damage. Mirio happened to be a victim of this quirk-erasing weapon, and there was a good chance you'd no longer have your quirk as well.
"I'll get Recovery Girl." He said simply, heading out the door. You grew sad as you watched him leave. Having someone at your bedside made you feel more at ease. Looking around, you noticed the dozens of cards on your nightstand, as well as two sets of flowers. One vase held a large bouquet of red roses, the tag displaying Todoroki's name. Beside it was a singular sunflower wrapped in plastic, Bakugo's name being written on it with black sharpie. You let out a sigh, resting your head back onto the pillow beneath you.

Recovery Girl arrived shortly after, confirming the very fears that swirled throughout your mind. The substance injected had heavily affected your quirk, and more than likely taken it away completely. Unfortunately, Mirio was affected by this same drug, and was unable to use his quirk. Bakugo had given you space, per request of Recovery Girl.
"Your body is displaying a different reaction to this drug." Recovery Girl began. "It seems that you've been injected with a different strand, it's not the same as the other samples we've come across. There's a slim chance you'll be able to restore your quirk again. Unfortunately, we can't say the same for Lemillion." You were quiet, not sure how to process this. You had the slimmest chance to restore your quirk, and maybe was better than never. You couldn't help but mourn Mirio's quirk for him. You couldn't imagine the pain he must feel, knowing he wouldn't be able to restore his quirk.
"We'll have a few more sessions of healing, but I can't promise your quirk will be restored. I'm sorry, dear." You sat up, wincing from the pain that traveled throughout your body. You simply nodded, and with that Recovery Girl left you to process this. All you could do in this moment was cry, regretting everything before this very moment. If you didn't go on your work studies, if you didn't take that midnight stroll, if you didn't try and be a hero that night. Thankfully, they were able to save that little girl— now known as Eri. You were disappointed at your pathetic attempt to save her life. What sort of hero were you— unable to protect her, and unable to protect yourself. Who knew what'd happen to your place is 1-A. Maybe you'd be removed from the class, or removed from UA entirely.
Standing outside your hospital room was Bakugo, who stood with his arms crossed. He closed his eyes, listening to your muffled sobs through the door. He knew he wasn't allowed inside, but he refused to leave your side. He knew you would've done the same. He decided to stand guard at your door, refusing to let anything else happen to you.
