I have never been the social type. I always chose staying in out. So when I was asked to go to a party in the Slytherin common room, my answer was a hard no. I had somehow been sorted into Slytherin, despite my shy demeanor and my lack of confrontational skills. Hearing that the party was hosted by Slytherin, I decided that I would spend my night alone in the library. I walked down the quiet corridors into the building that I considered my safe haven. Books were always something that I enjoyed, and the huge library at Hogwarts was the closest thing to heaven for me. I sat down in a corner that was lit up by a candle and the light from the moon shining in the window, and say down with a book. I lost myself in the story, taking a journey to an unknown world with the characters. I was yanked from my fantasy land when a strong, deep voice startled me. "Not a partier?" I looked up to see a head of curly dark hair and striking eyes that belonged to none other than Tom Riddle. I slowly shook my head, not sure what to do. "Don't be scared sweetheart, I'm just like you. I'd rather not be around those... animals." He took a seat beside me. I had attempted to go back to reading but his hand moving over mine stopped me. I looked over and he smiled a bit. "Why don't I walk you back to your dorm... it's late and you shouldn't be out by yourself." I shrugged a little, "You don't have to..." He shook his head and pulled me to my feet. "I'll even get you throught the common area, throught the party." I cooperated, starting to realize how stupid it was to be out so late on my own. Tom guided me through the corridors, and when we got to the Slytherin common room, it was insanely loud. Alcohol was splashed all over the floor, there were people making out in every corner, and some girl had appeared to be giving out private dances in exchange for money. I felt someone's arm go around my waist, but it wasn't Tom. A drunken voice slurred, "Hey, come over here with me" I shrunk back into Tom's side, grabbing his attention. His arm shoved the one around me out of the way and replaced it. He glared the guy down, pulling me through the crowd and up to my dorm. "Alright sweetheart, here you are." He slipped his arm off of me and I turned to him. "Thank you.." I half whispered and he smiled. "Anytime" He leaned down and kissed my forehead, then walked off. He was once a famous stranger, who now felt like something more.
