Haruka Sakura doesn't have many secrets but he still chooses to keep every single card close to him. Especially the fact that he has a twin. He and his sister have matching heterochromatic eyes — his left eye being as yellow as the sun and his right being a cold blue like the night. His sister's eyes were the same but on opposite sides. She had the left eye as blue and the right as yellow. While Haruka had split coloured hair, his sister had more of black hair and white highlights all over. After moving to a new town, Haruka made sure that she would lay low among the regular folk whilst he would go to Furin and take the top spot. His twin advised against fighting a whole school of guys stronger than him but Haruka sees it as a chance to prove that he can overcome any challenge that comes their way.
One afternoon, Umemiya makes his way to a plant nursery to pick up extra supplies for his garden. He needed some more fertilizer and maybe get some new seeds if he finds something good. The bell above the entrance rings as he entered the shop but it seemed nobody was around. Umemiya heads further into the shop to look for assistance. He soon finds a girl with her back turned and wired earbuds in her ears, she was preoccupied by inspecting the plants on display. It wasn't long before she finally turned around and noticed him. Her eyes widened and she stopped moving, looking at him with her mouth agape. He also froze, noticing the white eyepatch that she wore over her left eye. Umemiya's in no position to judge so instead he smiled and waved hello.
She quickly takes her earbuds out, "I am so sorry, I wasn't aware that anyone came in."
His eyes softened. "Don't worry about it."
She hastily puts her earbuds away and dusts her apron before looking back at Umemiya, "What can I help you with?"
The white haired boy asks for extra fertilizer bags and a new trowel, as well as asking the girl for any more seed recommendations for his garden. She guides him to the back and helps him browse for whatever he needs. There was one point where she went to reach for something he needed on a shelf, except she was too short to do so. Umemiya could only chuckle and offer to take it himself instead. The girl smiled sheepishly as she led him back to the front counter to ring up his purchases.
"Can I ask about the eyepatch?" He asked out of the blue.
The girl freezes mid-action before her shoulders visibly relax. "Just an accident..."
To ease the awkward situation, Umemiya makes an offer. He asks if she'd like to see what he's been planting in his vegetable garden one day.
She perks up immediately, "R-Really? I'd love to!"
He grinned, "Well, then let's exchange numbers, shall we?"
After exchanging contacts, Umemiya also held out his hand and introduced himself. In turn, the girl shook his hand and introduced herself. For the rest of the day, the girl stares at her phone giddily, happy to have made a friend (and a cute one at that). When she got to her brother's place, he asked what the heck she was smiling about.
"Nothing."
"Fine, don't tell me." Haruka huffed.
"Nevermind me, how's your day?" Haruka didn't reply. He only settled into his futon with his back turned to her.
She rolled her eyes. "Fine, don't tell me."
Umemiya ends up not texting for almost a week. Y/n went about her way, going to her part-time job. But she often finds herself remembering Umemiya. He only came into the shop once but he left an impression on her. She'd only gotten the job after moving into town and all the people have been friendly so far, especially Umemiya. Y/n was more trusting than her twin brother. Her interaction with Umemiya made her realize that moving here was a good thing for them. As the week passed, Y/n noticed that Haruka left the lunch that she prepared for him. She puts on the eyepatch and heads out to Furin high. The younger Sakura twin had managed to find her way there without getting lost. She made her way into the building, finding it odd that nobody was in the classroom. But to be fair, she remembers seeing a lot of high school boys in green uniforms in town. They must've been Furin like Haruka. So, Y/n heads up.
"Haru-" She opens the door to the rooftop, looking for her brother but instead finds more.
Several pairs of eyes land on her, one of which was her brothers' and another was a familiar pair of eyes that she hadn't seen for a week.
Haruka stands and immediately runs to her. "What the hell are you doing here?" He scowled.
She scowls back. "You forgot the lunch I made for you!"
"I thought I told you to—"
"You don't tell me shit, Haruka."
If it was a stranger, Haruka would have immediately landed a punch. But because he wanted to protect his sister, he was about to drag her back home. However, Umemiya interrupts. Y/n smiles upon seeing a familiar face.
"Do you two know each other?"
Haruka sighs. "Guess no use hiding it now. She's my sister."
Everyone else lets out gasps and looks of surprise. Y/n takes off her eyepatch to reveal that both of her eyes are the same as Haruka's.
"S-Sakura-san, you have a twin?!" A blond boy exclaims.
"Yes." Y/n and Haruka answer in sync. Haruka gives her a side eye. "He was askin' me."
"So?" She sneered, causing her brother to scowl again.
Y/n then turns to Umemiya, "I'm sorry I lied to you. I just—"
Umemiya shakes his head and his eyes soften, "Don't worry about it. I should be sorry for not texting lately."
Haruka watches in disbelief as Umemiya and his sister hit it off. "You two know each other?"
"Yeah, we do. Don't we, Umemiya?"
"Of course! I promised I'd show you my garden, didn't I?" He held out his hand, which Y/n gladly took as she was led further into the rooftop area.
Leaving an angrily blushing Haruka Sakura yelling out, "Hey! That's my sister!"
Y/n only sticks her tongue out at him.
Soon enough, she gets introduced to Haruka's friends. He worried about her being involved with them, but Y/n wasn't worried at all because she knew she was safe, especially with her brother and Umemiya around. After that day, Y/n always visited Umemiya at Furin's rooftop (much to Haruka's overprotective protests) and further bonded with him about gardening. Often, the two start to plant together, a new sort of love growing just like the garden.
End.
