Present day
Soohyun stared absentmindedly at the scenery from the window to his ward. He was going to be discharged today but he had a lot of things running wild in his mind. Things he hadn't had the courage to speak to Jiwon about. Everything seems to be going well between him and Jiwon that he was afraid that his questions would break that. Yet he knew he had to address it one way or another at some point. There was definitely something off between him and Jiwon albeit how they get along well the past few weeks.
Right from how she wasn't wearing their wedding band, how she sometimes appears rather awkward when he gets more affectionate or touchy, how her eyes weren't looking at him the way she used to.
It did not help when even his family members and Hae In just seem to be avoiding the topic when he starts speaking of Jiwon or Tae Oh. He recalled how Hae In just drop off the topic when he mention how there weren't good memories for him to remember. That was just off.
Soohyun grab hold of his phone and run through his phone gallery, text messages and call log for the nth time. A habit each day either first thing in the morning or right before he sleeps. There were no photos of Jiwon or Tae Oh, no text or call history with Jiwon either. Strangely it was filled with someone name Seo Yea Ji. A name he wasn't familiar with but dare not approach the discovery to anyone yet. The only thing he had to hold on to was the fact that his phone passcode was still Jiwon's birthdate.
He heard the door to his ward open finding Jiwon. Immediately he smiled. "Why are you not dressed yet?" She approached before putting aside her handbag. "It hurts to raise my arm." He mentions putting his phone aside. Whilst he was physically recovered at most part of his body, his rib fracture still had its way limiting his upper body movement.
He was sitted on the side of the bed as he watch Jiwon grab hold of his shirt before putting it through his head and carefully leading his arm through the armhole one after another.
Their eyes met and as if on cue they smiled.
"How are you feeling?" She ask as her eyes shifted to his hair instead. Her fingers combing through the curls, away from his forehead.
"Excited. I can't wait to be home with you and our son." He beamed gaining her attention as she felt his hands on her waist before he pulled her close to him.
Their eyes locked on each other as 1001 things run in Jiwon's mind.
"I have something to tell you." She began, her hands resting on his shoulders. Soohyun nodded as his hands let go off her waist and grabbed her hands that were on his shoulders into his hands instead.
She contemplated and just from her body language, Soohyun fear that whatever that has been haunting his head for the past weeks may have caught up sooner that he had expected it to be.
"Don't be too shock by what I'm going to tell you. Just hear me out ok?" She continued. He nodded. "I'm listening." He assured appearing rather calm contrary to what he was feeling from within.
Jiwon felt his thumb rubbing across the back of her hands as if he knew she was nervous.
"Its about us." Jiwon heaves a small sigh, eyes on her feet.
"Our relationship hasn't been the best." She continued.
That was as much as Soohyun had thought.
"In fact, it has been bad."
"Really bad."
It breaks him listening to if coming from Jiwon.
It breaks him even more that Jiwon was heavylifting the stress on her own.
"We haven't been together for a long time." Her voice began wavering.
"Babe, you don't have to continue.." Soohyun grew concern.
"No. You need to know oppa." She lifted her eyes from her feet to meet his eyes. Immediately she felt weak. Soohyun felt how her fingers grasp tight onto his and he continued to rub his thumb over the back of her hand.
"We..We're divorced." She drops the bomb. "It's been four years since I last saw you. The day I came to see you here was the first time we saw each other in four years." She bit her lips hard after revealing the knot in her chest.
And almost immediately she felt his hand grip on hers loosen. She saw how he was completely taken aback by the revelation.
"What are you talking about?" He managed to utter. As much as he had a feeling their relationship had change. A divorce was the last thing he would've thought.
Jiwon recollected herself. "Tae Oh.." She continued and immediately she saw the fear in his eyes.
"You met him for the first time here." She reveals and at that Soohyun's heart dropped completely.
