2- Picnic Date

"Wakey Wakey sleepy head"
A voice I recognise as Lexi's tries to wake me up.

"Ugh..." I groaned as I try to open my eyes which feel like they weigh a ton. I'm immediately brought close to face with Lexi's.

"Can you move back a bit?''

"What you don't want see my pretty face this morning?''

"No...it's because any slight further movement we would be lip-to-lip''

"Fair enough...'' she said as she moved back.

I sit up on the bed and scan the side drawer for my phone. Once I find it I reach over and grab it, I check the time and it says fifteen minutes past seven. I have lectures by nine and telling by the current time I have enough time to prepare. I stretch my arms yawning trying to recall the events of the previous day, and that's when it clicked.....Lexi's date with Jacob.

"So.....how was your date?'' I scan the room and when I find her in front of the dressing mirror I ask her.

"It was great.... Jacob is so nice and we watched a movie after that we got food and later on we just went for a walk''

"Awwwn I'm so happy for you....so when are you guys going on your next date?"

"This weekend......actually I was thinking if you could come with me I was really nervous yesterday and I really need you to be there so that I could be you know......less nervous......it's only a picnic date at the park and don't worry I'd tell him to bring a friend......pretty please''

I chuckle as she says the last part with the same failed attempt of a puppy dog eyes.

"How could I say no to those eyes?''

She squeals in excitement
"thank you very much I'll tell Jacob today after lectures"

"no problem'' I tell her as I get up preparing for the day ahead.

"Annelle aren't you guys ready?'' I hear Damian yell from downstairs

"coming!'' I yell back.

Today is Saturday, the day Lexi and I are having our double date. We're currently hurriedly getting ready for the date and Damian is just not helping matters. We were binge watching a series and lost track of time. Now Damian is screaming our heads off because he was dropping us off while he was going for his basketball practice with a couple of his friends.

"Alright....we're ready" I say as we walk into the living room

"Good now let's go" he said as he hurriedly walk out of the house to his car.

Well technically it's our car, our parents got it for us when we we're leaving for college, but I just let him use it because I really don't need it, anywhere I go he either drops me off or I tag along with Lexi or I take a cab or order an Uber.

Lexi and I lock the apartment as we leave and walk to the car. Lexi calls shotgun so I'm stuck at the back alone. I drift off into my own thoughts as to how this date could go and suddenly I feel strange like something is going to happen, I try to push the feeling down and think positively for Lexi but the gut feeling just keeps coming back so I decide to listen to whatever conversation Damian and Lexi were having.

"Thanks...bye..'' I tell Damian as he drives off.

I take Lexi's hand in mine as we walk into the park

"Are you ready?'' I ask her even if I'm not feeling very confident myself especially since I had that gut feeling that kept creeping it's way back into my mind.

"Yeah.....I'm a bit nervous but since you're here I'm okay''.

I decide not to tell her that eerie feeling I'm having so she doesn't feel worse. I squeeze her hand silently telling her that I'm there for her, always.

As we got closer to the spot we were meeting them, that feeling got deeper, at this point I knew something was definitely wrong. It takes everything in me not to drop Lexi's hand and just sprint away from there, but I can't just leave her-

"There they are'' she said pulling me away from my thoughts and pointing to where they were.
As I turned to look at them, my gaze goes to his friend immediately and there I was staring at him, he was staring back at me so intently and it was like every other sound around us died down, it was like there was a spotlight shone directly on him and suddenly I was unaware of every other thing around me.

"Annelle'' I'm pulled away from the weird gazing session I just had by Lexi's voice.

"Yeah?"

"What's wrong you just stopped walking?"
I hadn't even realized that I had stopped walking and Lexi was moving ahead of me.

"Uh...nothing''
I said and started walking beside her. Everything felt weird all of a sudden and I just hope I don't ruin this for Lexi.
