Misadventures

I was wandering around the mansion. After all, Asher hadn't given me any orders about whether or not I should explore, just that I shouldn't go outside. This house is so beautiful, with the exposed brick and the white-washed accent walls- the clay red and white make a very aesthetically pleasing contrast as I wander down the hallway past the guest room, looking around at all the elaborate oil paintings of sunflowers and woodlands strewn about the walls. Asher hasn't given me a room, I'm not sure why because he has plenty to spare, obviously. My hand runs along the vertical striped lime green and juniper green wall paper before I stop at a particularly striking painting. It's a woodland scene, but the whole thing is tinted green. There's a large elk in the foreground, it's antlers are huge and it has a darker coat then you'd expect along with... red eyes? Interesting.

I stare at said painting for a good moment before I continue my expedition. I wander down the hall, taking in every little detail until I decide to open the door at the end of the hallway. I'm not sure I should be seeing any of this, it's a large room with several floor to ceiling windows, a large mahogany desk overlooking the rest of the room and bookshelves full of dust-ridden books and large crystals. And are those- jars of preserved animal parts? Wow, this is a lot to take in. I continue wandering along the aisles of bookshelves, not really worrying about if I'd get caught- Asher told me he'd be away all day today.

As I walk down the fourth aisle something shiny catches my eye. I walk down towards it, squatting down so I can see it better, it's a... golden jewelry box? I run my fingers along the old germanic-looking engraving just above the clasp- it looks expensive. I probably shouldn't open it, but I'm so curious... fuck it.

I open the box so carefully to find several necklaces and earrings, most of the chains are silver and most of the jewels are ruby... or maybe red seaglass? I pick up a long silver chain with a hollow pendant attached to it, inspecting it closely. It's... normal clear glass with a red liquid in it... wait, the liquid has little clumps in it. Shit, is there blood in this thing? I glance around nervously, I know for sure that I shouldn't be messing around in this room, and I'm getting anxious at the thought that Asher could find me digging through his things.

I take a deep breath, reminding myself that he's not supposed to be back for a few hours yet. I then put the box away, carrying the strange necklace towards the light of the windows to try and get a better look at it. I inspect the pendant closely, holding it up so the light shines through it, but the blood is a dark red, it's opaque, filmy. This blood has definitely been sitting here for a while. I shudder slightly at the thought of what this thing could be used for or how it was made and I go back to the bookshelves to put it away. I'd gotten a little creeped out because it'd reminded me of some pendants I've seen vampires wear... is that what that thing is? I remember one of the more dangerous vampires I'd encountered a few months ago was wearing something similar.

I wander over to the desk, admiring the way that the light from the windows illuminates it so perfectly. I run my palm over the smooth wood and I smile, glancing at the little trinkets Asher has lined up near the one edge. I pick up a little whittled wooden rabbit, my smile brightening as I see all the detail, knowing from a few classes that I took that whoever made this thing knew how to go with the wood grain perfectly- and I'm impressed that they were able to carve something so small with so much detail, the rabbit just barely as big as the palm of my hand.

I set the little rabbit back where I found it, then I plop down on the little rolly chair and scooch it up to the desk before I proceed to open one of the deep drawers. It's alphabetized files. My brows shoot up in surprise, what could Asher possibly have stored away in here? I can't help myself and I start digging through all the papers... A, B, C, D... and T, I search through the 'T' names until I find 'Tedrose', my jaw dropping as I read what he wrote about me.
