Confession

"How's the situation right now?"

Liam lay on the hospital bed, still hooked up to an IV, yet his mind was on the company.

"Hard work pays off." Looking at the man who refused to rest even when bedridden, Michael couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration.

Everyone envied Liam, dreamed of becoming him, but who really knew the hardships he endured behind the scenes?

This wasn't a gift from the gods; it was the result of his relentless effort.

"The situation isn't good. The press conference didn't have much impact, and the board is quite critical of you. If this continues, your position as CEO is at serious risk. Here's the investigation report on the plane crash."

As Michael spoke, he handed a file to Liam.

"It seems the plane crash was just an accident."

"And this is the background check on Evelyn."

Liam took the file and read it carefully:

"Lost her mother in childhood, father went bankrupt and committed suicide a few years ago. She put herself through university and did medical aid work in Africa.

Her story is tragic but she's resilient, intelligent, and compassionate – a perfect Cinderella in the public's eyes."

"When Cinderella is in distress, the prince saves her and falls deeply in love with her, deciding to be with her. Do you think the public will love this touching story?"

"You mean—"

Liam interrupted Michael, asking, "Did the doctor say when Evelyn is expected to wake up?"

"Probably tomorrow, the latest day after tomorrow."

"Good, I remember there's a banquet at Walden Manor Hall in two weeks, with various social elites attending.

I plan to propose to Evelyn then. Make the arrangements, and don't spare any expense. The proposal should be grand enough that even passing birds will be in awe of the extravagance.

Also, leak the news to the media in advance. The more publicity, the better. Technova's CEO, who has never brought a date to any formal event, proposing to an unknown woman will overshadow our negative news.

The public is like forgetful children with limited attention spans. They can only focus on one thing at a time. Once they have a new toy, they'll naturally drop the old one.

The board members want to use this to push me out, but they won't succeed."

"But what if Evelyn doesn't agree? You two have only known each other for a few days." Michael questioned.

"There are enough people wanting to marry Liam Montgomery to form a line from here to Antarctica. Evelyn is just one of them.

She isn't the most beautiful, smartest, or most outstanding. She's just an ordinary person among thousands. I can't think of a reason why she would refuse me."

If anyone else had said this, Michael might have laughed at their arrogance, but from Liam, it seemed entirely reasonable.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Liam was the last person on earth qualified to make such a claim.

The man before him was like a favorite of the gods. Not only was he blessed with movie-star looks, but he also inherited immense wealth.

And unlike those rich kids who only knew how to indulge, Liam was hardworking, disciplined, without any bad habits, and had a great business acumen. Under his management, the company had even reached new heights.
