Shermer High School, Shermer, Illinois, 60062

Dear Mr. Vernon,

We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did was wrong. But we think you're crazy to make us write an essay tell on you who we think we are. What do you care? You see us as you want to see us, in the simplest terms, the most convenient definitions. You see us as a Brain, an Athlete, a Musician, a Basket case, a Princess, and a Criminal. Correct? Thats the way we saw each other at 7:00 this morning. We were brainwashed.

3rd Person POV:

Claire Standish and her Father pull up in front of Shermer High as Claire is gathering her belongings. "I can't believe you can't get me out of this," she says. "It's so absurd I have to be here on a Saturday, it's not like I'm a defective or anything." "I'll make it up to you. Honey, ditching class to go shopping doesn't make you a defective," says her father as he hands Claire her lunch. "Have a good day." With that Claire steps out of her car and walks up to the building.

Brian Johnson sits in his car with his Mother and little sister, as he looks down at his lap. "Is this the first or the last time we do this?" His mother asks him. "Last," Brain says quietly. "We'll get in there and use the time to your advantage," his mother tells him. "Mom we're not supposed to study we just have to sit there and do nothing." "Well mister you figure out a way to study," says his mother sternly. "Yeah," says his little sister from next to him. He hesitates a short moment, but in this moment his mother speaks up. "Well go!" She says. Brian gets out of the car and walks up to the building, noticing another car behind his, and a girl on her bike riding up to the bike rack from beside the school.

Andrew Clark sees the car in front of his drive away as his Father speaks up from the drivers seat beside him. "Hey I screwed around. Guys screw around there's nothing wrong with that. Except you got caught sport." "Yeah, mom already arraigned me alright?" He says. "You wanna miss a match? You wanna blow your ride?" His father's says while his voice is rising. Andrew simply shakes his head no as he looks down at his lap. "Now no schools gonna give a scholarship to a discipline case." His father tells him. Andrew looks over at him, and then reaches for the car door and steps out, slamming the door as he walks up behind a brunette girl with headphones on.

John Bender walks up to the school and almost gets hit by a car, but moves to his side and keeps walking up like nothing had happened.

In said car, Allison Reynolds gathered her things and stepped out of the back seat, hesitating for a few seconds before trying to say goodbye to her mother, but she drives away before Allison gets the chance. With that, she follows John into the school building, and everyone makes there way to the library.
