Chapter 4: "Lunchtime Banter"
As they sat down at the lunch table, Emily's eyes widened at the spread of food before her. "Justin, how do you expect to fit all that in your stomach?"
Justin chuckled, his eyes crinkling. "Hey, I'm a growing athlete! I need fuel for my muscles."
Emily teased, "More like fuel for your ego, quarterback."
Justin laughed, his friends joining in. "Hey, someone's got to keep you nerds in line."
Their banter continued, with Emily trading witty remarks with Justin and his friends. For the first time, she felt like she belonged in the popular crowd, without compromising her own identity.
As they finished lunch, Justin turned to Emily with a serious expression. "Hey, can I ask you something?"
Emily's heart skipped a beat. "Sure, what is it?"
"Do you believe in love at first sight?" Justin asked, his eyes locked on hers.
Emily's face grew warm, her voice barely above a whisper. "I didn't, until now."
Justin's smile lit up the room, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Me neither, Emily. Me neither."
