Little by little

"So... how long until you have your wedding?" Sweeney asked his daughter as the two sat together on a bench near the shore. It was just him and Johanna. Anthony decided to leave the two alone for some 'father daughter bonding' or at least have the two hang out more so things aren't awkward.

Johanna played with a piece of her hair, "Anthony and I were thinking about a month from now, at least until we're fully settled in a home". Sweeney only nodded his head. He still wasn't fully set on his daughter getting married, especially for how young she was and he was only now getting the chance to reconnect with her. But... he also wants her to be happy, and he can see that the naive sailor makes her happy and it's obvious she wants to be with him. Deep down he knows he has to let her go.

"I want you to be in my wedding," he suddenly felt a pair of small soft hands touch his. Johanna stared at him with those angelic blue eyes who craved to have the fatherly loved she never had. "I want you in my life, you're my father and I want my children to meet you, someday". The thought of his daughter having her own children sounded foreign to the barber, but he would be more than delighted to be a grandfather.

Sweeney cleared his throat, "thank you, Johanna. I feel honoured". He honestly didn't know what to say, he was almost relieved that Johanna would still want to be in contact with him after what he told her. Though it seems Johanna is more like her mother than he thought. She can always forgive but he never could, and he never will.

"Don't be, you're my father. Who else would walk me down the aisle? And you and Anthony are close friends. You're welcomed to visit us anytime, even if we grow tired of you" Johanna couldn't help but giggle a little. Sweeney could also feel his lips twitch in a little grin.

"Thank you".

Johanna's smile suddenly dropped a little, "now... about your... situation with Mrs. Lovett, will you two ever make up?" She asked him. Sweeney was almost taken aback by her question. He was still very angry at the baker and he wasn't sure if he'll ever forgive her, even if they do somehow make some sort of truce with each other.

"I don't know," was all he could say.

Johanna stared at her father longingly, she could see the obvious anger and hated in his eyes but also the hurt and loss in his heart. So she took a deep breath.

"I'm not saying you should forgive her, but... I want you two to compromise. It hurts me to see you two hating each other and I don't condone hatred towards others, especially if it's my family". Sweeney sat up straight, "she's not your family, she's the woman that gave you away to that vulture".

Johanna was appalled by her father's answer. "I've spent an entire day with her and she already feels like my mother" she defended. Sweeney was about to say something but she cut him off. "Yes, what she did was terrible but hating her and wishing she was dead isn't going to solve anything. What would my mother think? She wouldn't want you to wish death on anyone".

"That witch is the reason your mother is dead!" He snapped. He never thought that he would ever yell at his daughter but he hated that she was poking at his wounds the baker left him. "She lied to you as well!"

"Yes but... she apologized and explained herself. What she did was wrong but I can see she wants to redeem herself.." the blonde stated, backing away from Sweeney a little, afraid he might pounce on her.

Sweeney immediately saw the uneasiness in his daughter's eyes and he quickly calmed himself.

"Do you really trust her? After everything she did? Do you really believe she'll change?" He asked her truthfully.

Johanna gulp and sat straight again, "in a way I do. I'm giving her a chance to change herself, and you should too".

Sweeney didn't feel like having another argument with his daughter so he nodded hesitantly, unsure if he'll ever give the baker a second chance. He wasn't even sure if she'll give him a chance since he almost killed her.
