It all started on a cold dreary night. The wind seemed to have a mind of it's own, howling through the dark and the pattering rain began to pour. As if the sky was crying out of fear. The woods around me seemed to hold the same fright as the sky but only darker much darker. As the storm raged on the wind became sharp and brutal. Pushing the trees causing them to sway and some of the leaves were ripped off flying every which direction.
As time passed the storm continued to become worse and by the second. Lightning was dancing around in the sky as the thunder began to bellow louder with each flash of lightning. Off in the distance was what sounded like a roar or maybe just my imagination. I brushed it off the shoulder just thinking my brain is playing tricks and nothing more.
It started to feel as if there was something out beyond the trees that were dense with only a small rocky trail cutting right through. That trail is my driveway, one way in and one way out. The storm did not feel like a typical storm for this time of March it seems the storm had something living or dead about it. As the storm raged on, the more dread I have, the more it seems to be sinister in nature. It must be part of my mind, something I conjured up. However, I can't seem to shake this feeling off like there is something or someone warning me to leave and never come back. Every bone in my body is telling me to run away or do something.
Maybe turning on some music would help ease the nerves a little. I think I'll throw on Hellraisers in Heaven by The Lacs that features Murphy Elmore I'm a sit and relax for a bit to ease some stress from a shit day at work. Heh, got to love blue collar jobs on the third shift.
As soon as the sense of reality washed over it was gone and replace by that of dread from before, but worse. Almost as if there was something urgent about it. It hit like a ton of bricks the putrid smell of sulfur wafted through a one story house but how? The windows are shut and locked up tight. Just as the sulfur begin to walk through the house pain began to erupt throughout my body but why? I did not injure myself at work or home. Where is this pain coming from and why? I'll just take some painkiller to ease it a bit.
As a music was playing in the background it suddenly felt as if there is a weight pressing down on me, but nothing was there. Then the song Let Me Be by oh, The Horror popped on making the atmosphere that much darker than what it was before. Everything is becoming creepier by the second. The world around me appears to be darkening by the second. My vision is slowly becoming like a tunnel. And at the end of the tunnel was Nana. Something is wrong with Nana. When she turned around nothing was left other than her skull, rotting flesh, mold, and maggots littering her face. All she did was stand there nothing more, nothing less.
When I woke from that weird dream. The storm was still raging on as if no time had passed. My vision clear as day, however the smell of sulfur l was still there just like my feeling of dread. Staying as if there were two people staying as guests in my home. Slowly I started to get up to check my surroundings to see if anything had changed. Nothing did other than the feeling of being watched. I'm beginning to think that I'm slowly going insane. Now, the sulfur smell fades like it wasn't there to begin with.
There was something odd about it, but I could not place it. Like the dark was peering back at me as if there was something waiting and watching for the time to strike. I was looking at my driveway when I thought I saw something right across it but I decided just my imagination. Until, it was pitch black that's when I heard it screaming and roaring around as if it was circling my house out in the middle of the woods. I couldn't make out what it was saying.
Thunder all around and the sound of roaring I suppose it were to be. The roaring or screaming got louder like it was becoming closer to where I was. That's when I heard it plain as day. It was saying my name, " Raine Raine Raine." I wonder how did it know my name? Why was it calling for me? The calling of my name was becoming louder with each passing second.
Then I decided to race around the house to turn all of the lights off as I thought it would draw less attention to me but, I was wrong. The creature was running faster and faster towards my house each footstep sounded like a thud as the thunder and lightning was still raging on.
The storm faded away as if it was never there to begin with but, the wind and cold remained there never wavering. However, a new sound came, it was now scratching. Was it the creature or something else?
Just then a loud bang startled me. I went to where the bang was. My front door was wide open. The creature standing tall in the door way snarling and snapping its jaws. A low growl came from the creature chilling me to the core. My hair stood on end as I tried to scream but nothing came out not even a whisper.
It was still in front of me poised like a rattlesnake ready to strike. It was standing low to the ground on all fours. The fur was a grainy with spikes that looked to be about three or four feet long. It's face was long and white at first glanced. I looked closer and realized it's face was rotting, molding, and the skeleton was showing in some places. With the creature came a smell of death and sulfur.
