Girl in Red

By the time Mia and Charlotte arrived back home, they were absolutely soaked from the rain. They couldn't stop laughing with each other and had to be touching each other in some way. A hand in the other's hair, a touch on her back, or arms interlocked. Mia couldn't be more in love with Charlotte if she even tried.

After Charlotte had accepted Mia's proposal, they stayed in the moment as long as they could. Well until Charlotte had spotted a swing set farther back into the park trail. The two women shared a look and before Mia could think twice, she saw her sweetheart booking it for the swings.

"Hey! You didn't say go!"

"I never do!"

"You're such a cheat, Charlotte!"

Mia relished in the giggles she could hear from Char and eventually picked up the pace so she could catch up to her. Just as she was about to reach the swing set, Mia pulled her into her arms.

"Gotcha." She laughed softly, peppering kisses all over her face and tickling at her sides.

Mia lifted Charlotte up so she could set her onto the swing. She hopped onto the swing beside her and they swung in silence for a while. The rain wasn't going to stop anytime soon but that didn't seem to bother them. Charlotte was so focused on how Mia had captured her heart perfectly. She was wonderstruck, blushing all the way home.

Harper and Rose were waiting in the living room for their moms to come back. They couldn't stop pacing back and forth, what if Mia got too nervous to ask? What if their mom said no? All worries were put to rest when the door opened up and laughter filled the home. The family was more than complete now knowing the outcome of Mia's question.

"Girls! Did you know?" Charlotte exclaimed, wrapping her arms around them as they walked in.

"Yes! It was Harper's idea to do it at the park." Rose laughed, being squished between her mom and sister.

"And it was Rose's idea to string the fairy lights and to do it at the meeting spot."

"Oh my loves, it was perfect." Charlotte sighed, showing them her ring and the sparkle. "Mia! Come get in here!"

Mia couldn't stop smiling at the three girls she loved most in the whole world and joined their tight embrace. With all of her strength, she managed to pick them all up and give them a small spin. Her sun, moon and stars all in her arms at once, what a way to spend her time on earth.

Harper and Rose of course had to ask millions of questions to Charlotte to see what she thought. Charlotte was more than happy to recount the events after she had changed into dry clothes and had a coffee mug in her hands to warm up. Mia had taken the chance to call Autumn and Marjorie to ask them out for drinks. She wanted to tell them the news and celebrate what an accomplishment winning over Charlotte was.

It just so happened that Autumn begged for them to try "Girls in Red" which made Mia a little nervous. She had asked Charlotte if she wanted to go there or try somewhere else, and surprising Char was more than alright with it. She wasn't ashamed of her past anymore and if it were to come out, she'd rather it come out with her there.

Meeting with Marjorie first led to many tears and she could take her eyes off of her beautiful engagement ring. Once again, Charlotte got to recount every detail of their time in the park and the way Mia's words rang in her mind. She'd never forget how loved she had felt in that moment.

Autumn, on the other hand, and Mia's encounter was a bit more callous.

"I'm not sure what she sees in you, Mia." She chuckled, watching as Marj and Charlotte chattered on and on.

"Really? Do I need to pull out someone's diary?"

Autumn's eyes widened as she smacked her arm,"You wouldn't dare." She was quiet for a moment, her eyes lingering on Charlotte as she talked about Mia's softer side. "If you hurt her-"

"I'll never be seen again. Yeah yeah I know." Mia coughed, "You forget, we've not heard from Diana because of the way she hurt my sweetheart... You don't need to worry about any of that."

Autumn was getting ready to speak again when Charlotte walked over and beckoned them to come inside. She hadn't seen Joe in a few weeks and practically jumped onto him, showing him the ring and the news that Mia had proposed. He was over the moon for Charlotte as he could remember the young, lost girl he had met back in college. He was so proud of how far she'd come in her confidence and the obstacles she had worked through.

Marjorie's eyes furrowed as she watched the interaction between the two, nudging Mia a little.

"What's the history between those two? I thought Charlotte had never been here before?"

"I'll let Charlotte explain to you who that is later on."

After a few too many drinks, Charlotte explained the whole story of how she had danced at the club when it first opened and how Joe was her best friend. How she had taken the job again to make ends meet after her divorce and the way it helped her with her sexuality. Confidence bloomed through her with each movement she made up in those lights and she was bound to show it off.

"No fucking way you used to get up there!" Marjorie laughed, unable to picture sweet Charlotte up on that stage. "There's no way, Charlotte."

"Well I'm not Charlotte when I dance.." She slurred, locking eyes with Joe and winking. He walked over to the DJ and had them switch the cue for her.

"She becomes Cherry Sweet." Mia smiled, understanding the exchange that had just happened before their eyes. She wasn't sure how Autumn and Marjorie would react to the slick and intoxicating way she knew Charlotte could move.

She couldn't stop thinking about everything the club had brought to her. She wasn't just anyone up on that stage now, Charlotte was Mia's girl in red.

Thank you all for being so patient with this final chapter. I've been struggling a little bit with taking my time and feeling guilty for not updating 3-4 times a day. I got a bit over my head with that expectation and unfortunately burnt out pretty fast. Today marks 2 weeks of "Girls in Red" and the final chapter is now here.

I did start a new fanfic called "I Know the End" and well I will not be updating as much, it will be much longer chapters this go around. To anyone who's been with me the whole time so far and made it through "At Last" and now this fic, thank you for your endless support.
