"Where are you going?" I wondered as Elias slipped from bed. "I thought you were going to stay."
"I'm hungry." His voice was rough as he faced away from me. "I made the mistake of not feasting on anyone this morning."
"You're hungry?" I echoed, sitting up from bed as I watched him. "Where are you going to get food?"
"From town," he replied, fixing his hair a little. "It's daytime but there's a place I can go."
"Don't go to town!" I told him, brows drawing together as he glanced back at me. I just stuck my lip out. "I'll be lonely."
He just shook his head and stepped over to me. "I'll be back soon, okay?" And he lightly pecked me on the lips, turning away.
"But I'm right here," I told him, smiling now.
He faced back to me, eyes glowing in warning. "Alice."
"I'm yummy," I said, pushing my hair toward my back to expose my neck. "I'm delicious."
"Alice, do you remember the pain you were in the last two times? Haven't you learned your lesson?"
I smiled innocently at him. "I never learn my lesson. And you're hungry, really hungry from the looks of it. And I am perfect food, see?" I turned my neck to expose a vein.
"Alice," he warned.
"I like the pain," I told him, smiling still. "And it didn't hurt as bad last time. I get a rush from it. You're no longer allowed to bite anyone other than me. They do not deserve the rush if they cannot appreciate it."
"Alice."
"Bite me," I told him.
"Alice."
"Please?" I fluttered my lashes.
He sighed and shook his head. "You're going to be the death of me."
He then stepped over, making me smile when he sat on the bed beside me, brushing my hair over my neck to completely expose it.
"Ready?" he whispered.
I nodded.
He then sank his teeth into my skin, making me gasp when I felt his fangs enter my blood stream.
And he drank, sucking my blood lightly as if he was trying to savor it.
And then came the venom...
The blissful, agonizing venom.
I closed my eyes, letting the fire in my blood consume me as I fell back onto the bed, and he came with me.
He stuck to me like glue, feasting on my blood like he hadn't been fed in days.
Oh, so delicious, he probably thought.
I secretly wondered how I healed every time he fed on me; I would fall asleep, and then boom! no wound what-so-ever.
He probably fed me those magical healing drugs whenever he did it... or he just had some kind of healing spell, but he wasn't a witch or warlock, he was daem. Daem didn't usually do spells, from what I remembered.
He finally released me after a minute or so, staring down at me as I remained in my blissful state.
"Does it hurt?" he asked me.
"It hurts so good," I replied.
He then smirked in amusement.
But a sudden voice burned through me:
"Princess Alice!" someone yelled, making me still. "The king demands that you come back to the kingdom this instant!"
I gazed up at Elias in alarm, but his expression was masked, completely hidden by a neutral one.
What...?
"Princess Alice!" he yelled.
"He found us..." I whispered, brows drawing together as a sudden cold pain struck me. "And he sent Denver, the lead of the guards. What do I do, Elias?"
He just gazed down at me, eyes softening "Go with him. I won't let anyone hurt you, okay?"
I stared. "What?"
"You heard me, now go."
"But... I thought I wasn't allowed back," I told him, breath shaking. "I thought...."
"They must've followed us," he answered, brushing my hair away from my face. "This morning, they must've. Someone must've. So please, follow him, I won't be far behind."
"Where will we go after that?" I asked him.
Elias just smiled. "I'll figure it out. Just go."
I quickly scrambled off the bed and dashed toward an empty room, and I quickly put on my old, dirty dress before I quickly caught my cloak.
"Princess!" he called.
"Coming!" I said quickly, stumbling toward the door while putting on my shoes.
Elias descended from the stairs behind me, and by the time I turned to look at him, he already has slipped on his masquerade mask and cloak.
I stepped out the front door, then, leaving it open behind me as Elias stepped out, too.
I then was met face-to-face with Denver, one of my father's main guards.
His eyes widened when he saw me. "Princess! Oh, thank God! We've been searching all around for you!"
He then looked up to the front door, where Elias stood, and his eyes suddenly changed color. "It was you."
Elias didn't reply.
I swallowed something hard as Denver's expression became dull, and he gazed down at me. "I will keep her safe, sir. You don't need to worry."
I blinked then and looked up quickly.
"You better," Elias replied darkly. "Or I won't ever forgive you. You've been a bystander. You need to step in next time the king tries something."
"Yes, sir." Denver nodded, gazing down at me. "We must go. Before the other guards arrive."
"And, Denver," Elias said.
The guard looked back at him.
"Don't tell anyone about this place," Elias demanded. "Only you know, understand?"
"Yes, sir."
He then helped me onto the horse as I glanced back at Elias in confusion.
He had connections with Denver? How?
And Denver... followed him, almost. Called him sir as if he'd known him forever.
If Elias and Denver were so close...? Why did Elias let him take me back to the castle?
Denver just hopped on the horse behind me, snapping the lead before the horse started galloping toward the trees.
"Who are you?" I asked Denver. "And how do you know Elias?"
"I've known Elias for quite some time," he answered in a dark tone. "He's the one who asked me to come there. To take you back to the castle."
"Why?" I demanded, brows drawing together.
He told me to never go back.
"There's something you should know," Denver answered. "That's what Elias told me."
"What is it?" I asked him.
"I don't know," he answered as we entered the town. "He told me the king will tell you."
"Father?" I said. "What would father tell me?"
"I don't know, Princess Alice."
I just stared forward, confusion rattling through me.
