The young girl ran through the primrose bush, the thorns ripping at her powder blue dress and the nettles stinging her lower body. The trees loomed above her as she ran as if they were about to reach down and snatch her from the ground. Her breathing was ragged, and she heard quick, light footsteps crunching the dead leaves on the forest floor. The footsteps sounded as if they were coming from behind her. Her head whipped around so quickly she could have suffered from whiplash, but that did not bother her. She caught a glimpse of a tall man, his strong, Italian aftershave making her feel woozy and lightheaded. Her legs collapsed underneath her as the man reached out and grabbed her blond plaited hair. He wrapped it around his fist as she screamed in pain and fear. Smiling, he ignored her screams and pleas as he unraveled the hair from his wrist in a slow and precise way. He wrapped it around her neck, tightening and pulling it so it crushed her windpipe. He walked away, leaving her bruised and battered corpse hanging limply from the branch of an old oak tree that was considered sacred by the community of New York. As he laughed, it echoed all around the woods, disturbing the animals that lived there.
