What Meredith told Carol shocked her to her very core. "Tell me that again," Carol whispered, disgusted by the thought of this murder and the idea of it.
"He has a hole in his head due to an impact of a blunt object such as a rock. He was stabbed to death with this knife as you can tell by the mark on his back and the protruding knife. It managed to penetrate his spinal cord at once. Then the murderer broke the glass using his body weight, using a shard to write on the victim's wrist "ABUSER" before throwing the bloody shard to the side, obviously hoping it would not be discovered by us. He then jumped out of the window when Doris woke up. We also found footprints. They were size eight. That is about it," Meredith repeated before sighing tiredly.
Now, I know readers, you are asking yourselves, "Why do it at midnight?" Well, the answer's simple, you are covered in darkness so will not be seen. However, the murderer made a massive mistake. He forgot to turn the lights off for full darkness, meaning Doris could see who it was briefly.
Both Carol and Meredith headed back to the station in their cars. However, Carol arrived later than Meredith as she had stopped off at the Waffle House, which was busy considering it was one o'clock in the morning. She ordered her usual but as a takeout. Just as she pulled into the car park, Carol turned on her radio which started playing the Jonas Brothers' "Waffle House." "Hmmm. Coincidence," Carol muttered through a mouthful of waffle and whipped cream.
Then, her phone rang, and she placed down her waffle onto the passenger seat. She looked at the caller ID and saw it was an unknown number from somewhere in Queens. Carol answered it but all she heard was a muffled sound and then a thump. The caller then decided to speak. When he did, it sounded like a gargoyle because of the voice disguiser that he used. "Hello Carol. Good luck playing these games as I will always win. Are you close to finding the murderer? No? I did not think so. I will give you a clue. It is me. But you do not know where I am, what I am planning next or who I am. I will make sure to leave more clues next time as you are obviously slow at connecting the dots. See you soon Detective, and a warning, do not mess with me if you want to live." After that, he hung up, leaving Carol panting, and breathing shakily. Sweat poured down her forehead as she tried to process what had just happened. How did that person have her number? She had given it to no-one. Had they hacked into her files or phone? There was no time to investigate, there was a crime to solve.
