Chapter Four:

What..?

With a bitter laugh, I rolled my eyes. "Nice fucking try, San. You think I'd actually believe you or something like that?"

"Wooyoung, I'm being-"

"Enough!" I snapped. "It's been five years San, five years..."

However, I paused, a sudden stillness coming over me at the possibility that his words were true. I didn't fail to notice how Yeosang was able to recognize his number still when I called earlier, whereas San didn't have his contact saved in his own phone. There were so many questions flooding my mind that I couldn't even get through answering myself, but out of all, one was at the forefront of my mind.

Did he really come back for me, and if so...why?

Shaking my head, I abruptly opened the car door and stepped outside, eternally grateful that the rain finally came to a halt. "I'm done with this conversation...are we going inside or not?"

I could hear a sigh escape him before he followed suit in opening his own door. "Yeah sure...follow me."

I watched he made his way into apartment building, me following close behind silently. Inside the building itself was setup almost like a hotel lobby, and based on my prior knowledge of the entire complex, this was one of the more higher end priced living spaces. Only people who had a significant amount of income could afford, let alone get approved, to live here.

San led us towards one of the elevators before pressing the 'up' button. He glanced at me for a moment before the doors opened up for us, gesturing for me to step inside first. Reluctantly obeying, I stepped inside the cart and took notice of the intricate design of the entire thing. The walls had unique carvings with what seemed to be diamonds embedded inside each groove, and above was a warm yellow light that bounced off them all. I could feel myself slipping into an anxious state at the sight of all, instantly regretting agreeing to stay in such a place like this. It was clear that I was nowhere near fit enough to be in here, but there was no other choice but to ignore the feeling.

How the hell can he even stay here with a convenience store pay...?

San pressed the top floor button before sighing. "My grandparents paid for this place for me, if you're wondering..."

"I wasn't asking, it's not my business." I muttered.

He nodded quietly, choosing not to continue which I was grateful. All it did was create more questions and confusion, but I brushed it off. The last thing I wanted was him thinking I was curious about the how's or why's of his life.

Reaching the designated level, I decided to step off first and gather myself before he led us toward his apartment door. Upon exiting the elevator, I noticed that there were only two doors on the entire floor, one on each side of the end of the hall. San stepped out and turned left, which was the opposite direction of where he parked his car and entrance of the building.

Following slowly behind, we continued our way to the door and instead of using a key, he lifted up his cellphone toward the doorknob. I watched as a quick green light flashed before the sound of it unlocking hit my ears. With a simple turn of the handle, he pushed the door to reveal his place. "Here we are..."

Nodding, I stepped forward inside, my eyes growing wide at the giant space in front of me that was instantly illuminated by my entering. The apartment was a penthouse, one where all of the windows were floor-to-ceiling with a clear view of the city. The walls were grey and every piece of furniture was black, accompanied by stainless steel appliances in the kitchen.

"You can take your shoes off here while I'll get you some clothes to shower and change into to.." San instructed, slipping off his shoes before walking toward a door that I assumed to be his bedroom.

Doing as told, I took off my shoes slowly before walking around the space, my mind reeling with a mixture of confusion and irritation. Everything about this place screamed wealth, and I couldn't understand how he was so comfortable living in such a place like this. The last time I remembered, he lived in a two bedroom small house with his parents that was on the outskirts of Seoul, not a penthouse apartment that was in the most expensive part of the city.

I scoffed. "Must be nice to have a luxury like this all to yourself..."

"It would be nice if the price wasn't my parents dying..."

My head snapped towards San, who held a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie that looked all too familiar. However, the statement of his parent's passing had filled me with a pang of guilt. "I...I'm sorry to hear that..."

San nodded, not bothering to press further on the topic as he handed me the clothes, pointing to the opposite direction of his room. "The guest bathroom is over there for you inside the guest bedroom. I'll place the phone charger inside for you to use as well."

Taking a look at the hoodie, I felt a slight sense of nostalgia. "...you still have my hoodie...?"

I noticed what looked to be a faint blush on his cheeks before he cleared his throat. "Yeah...you gave it to me so I couldn't let it go..."

With a soft hum, I chose to turn toward the guest bedroom, fighting against showing any sign of weakness at the gesture. The hoodie was something I gave to him at the start of highschool and the fact that he still kept it brought a smile to my face, but I refused to let him see it.

Inside the guest bedroom, the design was similar to the outer area, with the bathroom being directly next to it as he mentioned. There was a normal setup to it, consisting of a regular shower and sink, with the toilet behind separated by another door. The sight of normalcy amongst nothing but luxury was welcomed, as I couldn't help but feel like an imposter inside the place.

Placing the clothes on the counter, I noticed he placed a new pack of undergarments in between the sweatpants and hoodie, all of it my size. Hanging by the door was also a new towel and washcloth, the tags still on them as a sign of no one ever touching them. However, warmth filled my cheeks as I realized he still could guess my measurements, but I quickly scoffed to myself. "Idiot..."

Stripping off my clothes while turning on the shower, it didn't take long for the room to be filled with steam, a clear sign the water was hot enough to step into. Once inside, I let the hot water cascade on my head, allowing myself to sigh in relief at the feeling.

Everything that happened tonight was flooding back to me, and I couldn't help but let out a quiet sob amidst the warm feeling of the water surrounding me. The relationship I gave my all to was a complete fraud, and my heart was shattered in pieces at the reality of it. And on top of it all, I ended up at the one place owned by the person who caused me to feel my first ever heartbreak.

A choked laugh escaped my lips as I continued to cry. "Wooyoung, you're so fucking unlucky.."

With that, I finally let out all of my buildup of pain and hid my tears underneath the stream of water, grateful that I had some sort of comfort to help me through this turmoil of grief.
