Taylor attended a friend's wedding, feeling the weight of societal expectations as everyone around her seemed to be pairing off. In her 30s and still single, she felt increasingly isolated and decided she needed a break. Slipping outside, she found a quiet spot on the stairs, fishing a cigarette out of her purse. She tried to light it but couldn't for some reason.

Meanwhile, Travis navigated the crowded venue with practiced ease, exchanging obligatory pleasantries with familiar faces. His phone buzzed, and he stepped outside to answer it. Kayla was on the other end, her voice already tinged with anger.

"You promised we'd talk tonight, Travis!" Kayla's voice crackled through the phone.

"I'm at a wedding, Kayla. Can we not do this right now?" Travis tried to reason with her, frustration growing with every word.

Travis moved further away from the door, unaware that Taylor was nearby, struggling with her cigarette. As his conversation escalated, he finally hung up, sighing deeply. That's when he noticed Taylor, laughing to herself.

"What are you laughing at?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"You and your girlfriend. Seriously, fighting at a wedding?" she smirked at him.

"Are you listening to my conversation?" Travis was annoyed.

"You picked this spot to handle your business. Can't blame me for overhearing," she said, taking a drag from her cigarette but still struggling with it.

"Damn it," she muttered, the cigarette still not lighting.

Travis chuckled softly. "You might have better luck lighting it the right way."

Taylor looked down, embarrassed, and flipped the cigarette. "Ugh, thanks."

Taking a drag from her cigarette, Taylor met his gaze with a sardonic grin, and Travis couldn't help but chuckle again. "You seem determined to have the worst night ever."

"And you seem determined to be my guardian angel. Sorry to burst your bubble, but smoking's allowed out here," she said mockingly.

Travis, amused by her defiance, decided to playfully intervene. He snatched the cigarette from her hand and crushed it underfoot, much to Taylor's indignation.

"What the hell? Who do you think you are?" she snapped, incensed.

"Someone trying to prevent you from poisoning yourself," he replied calmly.

Taylor huffed in frustration and stormed back into the wedding with a string of expletives. Travis smirked, amused by her fiery spirit.

"Dude, where've you been?" Patrick, Travis's best friend, asked when he saw Travis return to his seat.

"Out saving damsels from their own vices," Travis said, smirking.

Patrick chuckled at Travis's remark, shaking his head as they both rejoined the festivities. The encounter with Taylor lingered in Travis's mind, her fiery spirit and candidness making a lasting impression.

As the night wore on, Taylor drowned her frustrations in drink, each sip fueling a fiery resolve against societal expectations. Travis found himself similarly indulging, the alcohol blurring his senses as he stumbled toward the parking lot. A parking attendant pointed out her car, but Taylor fumbled for her keys, oblivious to their whereabouts in the depths of her purse.

Travis, equally impaired, stumbled upon her in her moment of distress. "Need a ride home?" he offered, slurring slightly.

"I can handle myself," Taylor said stubbornly.
