“Hyung?”
“Hmm..”
“When is your birthday?”
Taehyung opened his eyes and looked up at Jungkook's face. The elder was laying down on the grass with his head on Jungkook's lap, while the latter's fingers drew invisible patterns on Taehyung's forehead.
They both stared at each other for a few seconds, before Jungkook started to slightly frown. “It is not polite to withhold answers when someone asks you a question.”
Taehyung chuckled a bit, before holding Jungkook's hand and giving a soft kiss. “It's not polite to not give them time to think about that answer either.”
Jungkook pulled his hand and softly smacked Taehyung's arm. “What's there to think? Do you not know when your birthday is??”
“I do know that. I'm just trying to think of a way to tell you, without making you upset.”
“Upset?” Jungkook furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. “Why would I be upset?”
The answer to that question came with a few seconds delay and a sigh. “Because it was two days ago.”
“Hyung!!”
“See,” Taehyung quickly raised his head from Jungkook's lap and held the latter's face gently in his hands. Jungkook was trying hard to look away, but Taehyung kept his hold somewhat tight so that the younger had no choice but to meet his eyes. “I knew it would make you upset.”
“You should have told me, hyung.” Jungkook's voice sounded small. “I didn't know.”
“Of course you didn't know, baby. How will you know without anyone telling you?”
“But it's not fair!” Jungkook was pouting heavily now. “You knew about my birthday, but didn't tell me about yours. We should have celebrated it.”
“Well, we could celebrate now. I'll take you to any food stall you want and buy you loads of sweets. We could have a picnic party right now.”
“Never mind.” Jungkook huffed. “I'll plan something myself.”
“Baby, you really don't- okay, whatever you say.”
Taehyung's protest got stuck in his throat halfway at the scolding look Jungkook gave him. A look that threatened him with something terrible that Taehyung had no intention of knowing what. Letting Jungkook have his way seems like the smart option right now. Taehyung is all but a puppet, whose strings are controlled by the grandmaster puppeteer that goes by the name of Jungkook.
So he simply laid his head on Jungkook's lap again, and closed his eyes in contentment when he felt the warm touch of Jungkook's fingers in his forehead again.
They were at the river bank near the marketplace, which they used to frequently visit before Taehyung knew Jungkook's real identity. They were accompanied by Jimin those days but now they were alone. They saw Yoongi at the marketplace as well. As Jungkook said, their landlord has been complaining about the need for new window curtains for a while now. Guess he finally got to it.
Taehyung got a few paintings done earlier in the day, before they came to the riverbank to enjoy the sunset together. They had been spending a considerable amount of time with each other lately. If it was possible, Taehyung would opt to stay with Jungkook every waking second, but he couldn't since he needed to earn a living as well. Besides, Jungkook spent 4 days a week working for Namjoon's medical center and Taehyung was absolutely not welcomed there after he was caught distracting Jungkook from his duties. Not even the soft spot Namjoon is harboring for Jin could override his sense of responsibility and professionalism.
