Chapter Two

"My Lady, what would you like for dinner today?" Kass asks softly, jolting Melody awake. It must've been pretty late for Kass to say dinner. Melody wanted to reject the offer, but Kass stuck out her hand. Inside was her favorite treat—a blueberry scone. Melody reached out to take it, but Kass quickly closed her hand. "Not unless you eat dinner......"

Dinner was the usual: Crab-stuffed filet mignon and whiskey peppercorn sauce with a bowl of beluga caviar on the side. Various cheeses and slices of Ayam Cemani chicken dressed in Bechamel sauce laid out on a board, prepared by Head Chef Phil himself. A splendid amount of drinks sat on the table, including many types of mocktails. However, they were not to Melody's taste, despite the astronomical efforts her parents made to get her to like it. A bit of escargot was laid on her plate, which tasted horrible (at least in her opinion). Dinner was supposed to be a light-hearted meal to be shared with friends and the occasional business partner or celebrity, but today, Melody was feeling too somber to enjoy her food, the same question ringing through her head. Why would anyone kill my parents?

A few days later, she was sent a vase. They could have sent anything but a vase. A teenager was mourning her parents' deaths and the most the CEO of Genesis Innovations could have thought of was a condolence vase. It was nothing special, just a porcelain vase with a slightly chipped edge, like it had been battered a bit before getting sent. Melody set it aside like all the other gifts that she received after the wake. But just as she began to open another box, Mr Tuna knocked the vase down, and the whole ceramic creation shattered into a million shards. In the midst was a white post-it note, blood red ink scrawled on it:
