"Do you understand now?" he asked, his face less than an inch away.

"Yes," she breathed. "But why?" She stared up into his eyes, her dark eyelashes quivering.

"Because there are simply too many people in this world," he answered. "And this is what they decided to do."

"You say 'they' as if you aren't a part of this," she stepped backwards, away from him.

"I never was a part of this, like I said, I ran away from office-"

"And you will receive your punishment for that young man," the judge harshly tapped his gavel, staring daggers at Kris. "Such an immature move Mr. President," the judge seemed to spit out the last two words, as if he completely opposed Kris' election.

"I'm so sorry, your Honor, but may I just say that no matter how much you hate me, it was wrong for you and the rest of the government to continue with this plan without my consent? Surely you should've known that I would eventually find out."

"Yes, oh wise sir, we all knew that you would find out. That's why we had planned for you to be the first one to die; but, oh so sadly, you turned out to be immune, like her. Then you ran away. Thankfully you played our cards for us."

"I was immune?" Kris smirked. "I was never immune like her. I drank the cure that had been created in your laboratory. I suppose you never knew that I knew about your plot to kill me? Well, I heard everything. Every. Single. Dirty. Word." He spat out his last phrase, glaring malignantly into the judge's eyes. "I was so sick of my own government talking behind my back out of jealousy. I wanted to disappear. I wanted to let the nation know that their President had given up because of their government; but guess what? No news was leaked of my disappearance. None. Why? Because the government is simply made up of a hundred cowardly men. Now if you'll excuse me, Jessica and I have somewhere else to be."

He extracted a silenced revolver out of his suit and quickly, without hesitation, shot the judge. Blood blossomed over the white cloak and the body fell, lifeless. Screams and yells echoed throughout the room as Jessica and Kris ran for their lives, out of the courtroom. Their intermingled hands tightened as they approached the exit; finally, a chance to be free. Jessica smiled slightly, imagining the bliss that they'd be in, when suddenly, Kris crumpled to the ground, blood oozing out from a hole in his shoulder.
