The next day arrived and my gift was finally finished. i had crocheted a pair of grey gloves for John which had a very small embroidered heart in the center of each palm.
Before going to Pete's first meeting for the film, I went down to the bar and left them there before it opened, with a post-it note that read 'We can't offer much but would like to thankyou for letting us stay, please accept this small gift, i hope they are useful to you. From Leila and Peter.'
Then we set out to the meeting, not having breakfast as we decided to save money for emergency, once we got to the building, walking this time as we discovered it wasn't far, Pete entered the meeting room and got a card from the receptionist (waving me a quick goodbye). I decided to start up a conversation with the lady at the desk about working hours and schedules. She was very friendly and very willing to speak. When suddenly she seemed to get nervous, giddy and excitable, allowing her eyes to see past me today the revolving doors. I turned around slowly and there again was the man from the bus, he must be a casting person or an actor of sort i guess but I didn't recognize him.
He wore the same sunglasses but this time he dressed more casually, without a hat. As he finished speaking to a woman slightly behind him with a check-board, he spied me by the desk, recognizing me, smiling softly as i returned it he began walking over to me. I grew sort of agitated and got anxious due to this whole situation as everyone in the waiting room was now looking my direction.
I looked down at my hands, realizing i might be in the way but somehow couldn't move, nor lift my eyes. The man's movements grew slower, his steps softer as my shoulders were by my ears.Suddenly there was silence as i could only hear myself breathe.
He knelt down in front of me slowly, causing me to lift my eyes and squeeze my nails into my hands.
His expression was concerned, eyebrows furrowed slightly, lips pursed. But as our eyes met his expression got softer and he smiled.
"Will you be joining us?" he questioned, gesturing to the door.I looked between him and the door in confusion and shook my head.
"I-I'm not in it." I said, referring to the film the meeting was concerned with.
"Nonsense" he exclaimed, "Come, the actors are allowed guests for these things."
Before i responded, he stood up, sending me a warming look. I nodded again trying to compose myself. He smiled then put one hand on my back just under my neck where my ponytail ended. He opened the door, allowing me in before him. I walked slowly, looking for Pete with my eyes among the others, none except the chairman payed us any mind, smiling at me and exclaiming at the man, "Oh, Mr Depp!"
Suddenly, it was as if a glass had smashed, everyone snapped their heads towards us and i felt my intruding desire to run away take over as a survival response, his hand still on my back. But as Pete saw, surprised to see me but worried about my state, suddenly spotting the man's hand on my back he got up in anger and walked quickly towards us, grabbing my shoulder gently, pulling me to his side away from Mr Depp. He slung his arm over me as i turned back, seeing the man's expression slightly confused but proud? or glad, at least. Pete led me to a chair next to him, next to another girl with ringlet curls, chewing gum loudly with her mouth open. Pete held my hand as everyone was still gawking at the man from the bus.
As Mr Depp sat down, everything settled. He sat in a chair opposite me as I pushed mine back slightly, to try to not be seen. The chairman started talking, introducing himself as 'Fish' and then talking about everyone's roles and the story. Everyone once in a while, someone would interrupt, i got the impression that these other people where pretty snobberish and prideful. Only ever speaking for boredom of silence, never with questions or anything.
