CHAPTER TWO

Jamie can't sleep.

He had tried to keep his eyes shut, counting from 1-100 from backward and even meditating for hours, but she still kept his mind awake.

After sighing heavily, He got up from the guest bed, put on his glasses, and put on his sweatshirt before quietly closing the door from behind.

It was already two in the morning, and everyone had fallen asleep after the party-only his footsteps and the window waterfall echoed through the mansion.

He wasted time looking around the Clifton home; everything was too familiar. He wasn't sure if he hated it or not.

Every part of her home was filled with their memories; it was as if he was dreaming that he could project each memory back behind his mind.

Everything had started here for James and Adeline in the beginning.

He wondered if his parent hadn't introduced him, would he still be here heartbroken?

That would be impossible.

James Lexington and Adeline Clifton have been destined with each other since birth; that is what the traitor told him.

"James Lexington...meet Adeline Clifton, Adeline Clifton, meet James Lexington," his mother had introduced both kids as they stood before each other.

Little Jamie only blinked as a sign of greeting; his ego was too big to shake hands with the girl before him.

Adeline Clifton was already beautiful to him the first time they met; James never told her he had liked her since their first eye contact.

He remembers clearly that she is wearing a Chanel plaid jacket and skirt, her golden blonde hair tied into a ponytail with black bow accessories. Her style never changed as she grew up. James knows her style very well and even has a style that matches hers.

They eventually got close as they became each other playdate when both their parent was on business trips. James and Adeline were only children then, so they felt each other was perfectly lonely.

Even with their differences, it surprised him a little that he could get close to a sweet girl like Adeline Clifton.

"Hey, that cheated!" Seven-year-old Adeline Clifton screamed across the tennis court. She let go of the small tennis racket as it fell and approached him slowly. The maid practically runs to Adeline to avoid fighting.

James only looked dumbfounded, "No, I'm not; I just play like it should," he lied.

"This what you play every day?" He sneered, watching Adeline dressing her doll in the homemade outfit, "That's pathetic."

"Then leave if it bored you," she said, still focusing on her dolls. James was jealous at that time, jealous that she instead spent her time with a fucking doll than a perfect human like he was, "Can't I be practically stuck with you" he only responded.
