CHAPTER SIX

He was always a gentleman.

Everyone knows that, but Adeline Clifton always knows better.

James Elias Lexington was the most ego kid she had ever met, but deep down, she knew he was better than that.

She had already liked him from the beginning, and even though he was insufferable, she always had a crush on him. It was impossible not to have a crush on James Lexington, who was probably the cutest kid she'd met.

Before she got the name the Princess of New York from people, she was just Adeline Clifton, who named her English golden retriever puppy after her first crush, and she always loved James' reaction.

James narrowed his eyebrows as Adeline showed him the new puppy her daddy had bought him, her puppy wiggling his tail as he met James for the first time. "You name him Jamie?"

Adeline nodded, showing him closer. "After my name?"

She nodded again, "Jem for short."

Little Jamie only blinked, crossing her arms together as he judged the puppy, "But....why?"

"You look like him..duh." She rolled her eyes as she let Jem go; he quickly ran to James, reaching him to hold you, "Look, he already likes you!"

James is suddenly busy as he starts playing with her puppy. Adeline watches his eyes soften, and her smile brightens.

"Aww, look, my two Jamies bonding," She teased as James shot her eye.

Her puppy, Jem, always cuddled her until she was asleep, so she spent her time alone when James wasn't by her side. It wasn't long before her heart broke for the first time.

It's when she is seventeen, one year after they start dating.

James held an umbrella for her as he hugged her closer, his warm embrace Addie's petite body as she could only cry at his shirt, smudging her makeup as she watched her lovable Jem buried at the back of her mansion.

He had been missing for days, and James was the only person who searched for him, only to come back to him dead on his arm, being hit and run by cars on the highway.

At her small funeral, it was only Adeline, James, and her gardener who helped her bury Jem. It was raining, and they cried with her for the whole funeral.

James had taken her to her room after saying goodbye to Jem for the last time and had her sit on her bed as he kneeled, still gripping her hand and never letting her go.

"Hey...Look at me, Adeline," He whispers as Adelime keeps wiping her tears that never stop, melting her makeup.

It hurt,

It hurt so bad in her heart.

James watches her as his eyes soften, looking at the red-faced girl before her. He tilted her chin softly as she looked at him; Adeline did as she sniffed, losing herself in his dreamy eyes.
