Friday 5pm (1 week later)
Lisa's P.O.V.
It had been a long week, seemingly never-ending. I had spent my time divided between catching the odd lecture, overtime at the store and sitting beside my father's bedside in hospital. He was recovering but it was slow progress, some days were better than others.
After a sea of messages from Jennie, she had prompted me again to stay at her apartment until my father was home. I was reluctant but it felt like the best choice given the alternative was staying with Jia, who I hardly knew. Jennie was still a mystery to me and lately she seemed to be dropping hints that she wanted to be closer. As usual though, I preferred to be alone and had resulted back to my usual ways of being rather aloof with her.
Reaching the top floor of Jennie's penthouse apartment suite, I knocked quietly standing awkwardly in the lonely hallway with only a flicker of light above the door shining down.
After a few seconds, the door unlocked several times revealing Jennie smiling widely with a small, brown puppy wandering casually around in the background.
Glancing around the apartment, I noticed the lighting was dimmer than usual with several, lit candles dotted around creating an ambient atmosphere.
"Hey sweetie." She said, staring at me up and down with her signature gummy smile that soon turned to a subtle smirk upon noticing my slight new style change.
"Hi." I mumbled boredly, playing with the handle of the bag that was slung over my shoulder. It was heavy but no more so than the weight my heartache had been enduring the last somewhat turbulent week.
With an overwhelming sense of enthusiasm, she quickly grabbed my hand pulling me inside the warm and well-lit apartment. "Come on, don't stay standing in the hallway. I can't believe you're finally here."
Her words seemed to trail off and it seemed somehow bizarre that she had been anticipating my arrival. I hated this over familiarity she seemed to think we had for one another. "Why?"
The quizzical look on my face was a contrast to hers as she continued to devour every detail of my presence with her lingering eyes. "I've just been waiting for this moment... and you changed your style again."
"Yep." I replied casually. As was common, I had changed my hair style again and had become accustomed to a different fashion that seemed to compliment it.
"Aren't you gonna say any more than one word answers?" She chuckled, weaving her hand through my flowing, black hair.
Instinctively I pushed her hand back, creating space between us. "No."
"Lisa." The tone of her voice turned stern, rolling her eyes in annoyance.
"Well you're just stating the obvious so what's the point." I sighed, placing my jacket beside the door before my mood suddenly was uplifted by the small puppy who was now playfully wagging his tail whilst running towards Jennie and I.
