Previously on Chapter Four:

He smirked as he exuded confidence. "I don't need it, but thanks." With that, he opened the door and left for the night, leaving me alone in the dark home for the first time since I got here.

After Sanemi left, I went to work earlier than usual and focused on creating something to help the Demon Slayers Corp during our downtime. I was in the medical laboratory as I began researching a new recipe to help increase healing speeds and decrease pain, but I was mostly drawing a blank, unable to complete the final step. I let out a heavy sigh, accidentally alerting a nearby Shinobu.

"Ara~ Ara~" she said playfully and she came and sat by my side, examining my work closely. "Are you trying to improve our current pharmaceuticals lineup?"

I nodded as she asked to borrow my current notes. I let her study what I had discovered so far as she pondered for a few minutes until she finally had an idea. "Why not add this to boost the healing effects? I've tried this before but it wasn't effective on its own, but I think this pain killer you made will allow them to work nicely together." She suggested as she pulled down a box of one of her own medicinal concentrates.

"That could work," I said with a smile. We worked together for the next several hours until we came up with a prototype injectable serum that we hypothesized would be exceptionally useful in speeding up the user's healing abilities while decreasing pain.

I smiled at our work as Shinobu looked outside the window, noticing the sun was nearly down. "Y/N, you should go home before it gets much darker. You still have a target on your back from Muzan and Sanemi isn't home to protect you." She suggested, her tone filled with worry.

I nodded, a bit frustrated at the thought of leaving when I was in the zone, but I agreed regardless and started my walk home. I eventually reached the estate and opened the door, hearing nothing but the soft whines of the hungry dogs outside. Kiki wasn't even home yet despite the sun just finally disappearing.

Things felt strange again, even more so since Sanemi's absence. The strange feeling that I was being watched at night seemed to be intensified, but I never saw anything, even when I cautiously looked out a window.

I moved gracefully to feed all of Sanemi's pets, enjoying feeling like I wasn't clumsy for once. I groaned when I realized I had to interact with his beetles however, the sight alone making my skin crawl. Just as I set down the dog's food, the door started to open and I felt a surge of panic course through my veins.

"What... What the hell are you doing in Sanemi's house?!" A strange boy with black hair yelled at me, pointing his finger enraged. He had the same crazed look at Sanemi as I wondered. "Answer me!"

"Relax! I live with Sanemi now under Oyakata-Sama's orders. Who are you?" I asked in a gentle tone as he seemed to be processing my words.

"Oyakata-Sama orders? Uh, I am Genya." He spoke without his last name, but I recognized who he was already just by his first name and the many swirling rumors.

"Ah, you are Sanemi's younger brother!" I said with a soft smile as he looked like he was about to snap before he crossed his arms.

"I'm just here to take care of his pets. I do every time he goes on a mission." He explained annoyed. I look over to the beetles and back to Genya.

"If you take care of the beetles I'll cook you whatever you want. Your brother loves my food." I bargained as he looked frustrated.

"Shut up! I don't need you to make a deal with me. This is my job given to me by Oyakata-Sama!" He argued as I rolled my eyes at the excessive yelling. I turned away and walked into the kitchen a bit stubbornly to make him realize two can play that game.
