Gracie rang the doorbell as we waited for her parents to open the door she whispered "you got this!" I damn sure hope I got this.
But to my surprise someone I wasn't expecting opened the door. it was a teenage boy who looked an awful lot like Gracie. Id completely forgot she had a brother.
"Oh my gosh Auggie, Ive missed you!" She hugged him. "Ivy, this is my little brother August, Auggie this is Ivy" Gracie introduced the two of us and I just waved politely at him.
"Hey! I'm not so little anymore!" August tried to correct his older sister. "Please you're seventeen! You're a fetus!" Gracie laughed.
"I knew I heard you!" A woman who I presumed to be Gracies mother entered the room, "How are you angel?" She asked pulling Gracie into a hug.
"Momma this is Ivy" she smiled and her mother pulled me in for a hug. "Woah we're big on hugging aren't we" I laughed awkwardly hugging back.
"Oh sweetie I'm sorry are you not touchy I can totally-" her mother apologized. "No, no it's fine, I like hugs and stuff I just wasn't expecting it" I explained. "Well alright dear, your father should be here soon, Gracie. Dinner is just about ready" her mother revealed trailing off into the other room, August as well. Woops I've embarrassed myself already!
"So this is one of the many houses I grew up in, we were a bit of all over the place with my dads work" Gracie explained leading me through the humongous home.
"I feel like I'm getting lost even with a tour guide!" I joked. "Please! It's not even that big!" Gracie laughed, "isn't Taylors house much bigger anyways?"
"Yeah but I grew up there, I knew that place like the back of my hand since before I could talk" I added. "Which one?" Gracie joked. "Well Ive only been to like five of them, my mom always kept me home with school and stuff" I elaborated.
Gracie led me holding my hand through hundreds of twists and turns until we made it to a stop. "This was my old music room" she smiled turning the door knob.
"This place is beautiful!" I admired the spacious room and Gracies set up. "This is actually where I recorded my first EP, what? 3 years ago maybe?" She recalled. I pretended like i didn't already know that from stalking her instagram.
We continued down the hallway after I admired the room some more. "and this, this was my bedroom" she opened yet another door.
Behind it was a room I recognized. Id seen it in pictures but it felt different to see it right before me. I was stunned. "Do you like it?" Gracie smirked. "Mhm" I nodded taking it all in. This really did feel like a full circle moment.
We sat on her bed talking for a bit but then there was a knock at the door. "Come in!" Gray shouted. "Dinner ready" the younger sibling announced.
-------
"So tell me Ivy what do you do for work?" Her mother asked in between bites. "Oh- um I don't" i stated not even bothering to look at the disappointment that must be on their faces.
"Well do you have any plans for a career?" Her father asked. "Well I was thinking about getting back into acting like when I was younger" I admitted. I hadn't really told anyone yet so Gracie looked a little shocked.
Back when I was younger I was in a lot of things I was even a supporting role in Jessie later Descendants. Moving on from Disney, my last role I did was Stranger Things which I was only on for a season before my character died.
But in 2019 I took a break after Cameron died and only once came out of it to do an episode of Euphoria because of Zendaya but that was it.
Cameron and I were actually pretty close. I mean playing sibling for five years will do that to you. But even after it ended we still hung out all the time. But honestly Cameron was the reason I fell in love with acting in the first place. It didn't feel right to go back until now.
I mean helping Taylor write was fun and stuff. But I know that's not all I'm meant to do in life. I was really starting to miss it.
"Oh remind us what were you in again?" Gracies father requested. "I played one of the kids in Jessie, I was Lindsey Ross. Then I was in Descendants as Mother Gothels daughter Georgia Gothel, then I was on a season of stranger things as Phoebe Davis. But then I took a break and I guess I just never came back" I explained.
"Weren't you in that one show with Zendaya too?" Her mother questioned. "I did like an episode or two of Euphoria during my break but it was really only because of Zendaya, we're pretty close" I elaborated.
"Oh yes very interesting, but may I ask why you went on a break?" Her father pried. "My friend Cameron died" I frowned a bit thinking of him again. "Oh, we are so sorry for your loss" Her mother smiled sympathetically. "Thank you" I smiled.
-------
"So I guess I just realized we never really talked about that part of your life before" Gracie broke the silence. Dinner had ended and it was mildly successful but now Gracie and I had to drive back home.
"Yeah I guess not, I kind of left it all behind and never looked back after Cameron" I admitted. "Yeah you really did, but you want to try again now?" She confirmed. "Yeah, I'm really starting to miss it" I realized.
"Well what about singing and songwriting? I thought you really liked it?" She questioned. "Yeah I do but I just have a feeling that's not what I was meant to do, I was born to be in movies and shows, not be in the recording studio!" I emphasized.
"Well you know ill support you no matter what but now I just want to watch descendants with you instead of my little cousin, I think it would be funny to react to it together" she suggested.
"Do we have to?" I laughed. "If you want me to be happy" she joked. "Fine" i agreed. "Tonight?" She smirked. "Why not!"
