Inside an extravagant home, Carlisle was looking at his first turned. He pinched the bridge of his nose. "You did what?" He asked. The teen looked at him. "I may have accidently, um gave Bella my blood.. because she was bleeding, and it kinda back fired." Carlisle stood up and looked around the room. "How could you be so." He started to say when the teen looked down already knowing what he was going to say. "I know, I was dumb and reckless." The teen said. Carlisle nodded, agreeing with him. "Yes you were, you don't need your mind reading ability to know I was going to say that." He said, looking at him. The teen was going to say something until the rest of the family came pouring in. "What did Edward do now?" The blonde female looked at them crossing her arms. Edward visibly rolled his eyes. "It's none of your damn concern, Rosalie."
Rosalie tilted her head, looking at him. "It is if it's about that human." Edward turned his head staring at her. His eyes turned golden as did hers. They stared at each other, challenging the other to do something when Rosalie was pulled into someone's arms. "Hey, knock it off." The buff looking male said. Then, as if someone had turned their emotions around, the two calmed down. Edward turned to the other male sitting in the corner. "Jasper, how many times do I have to tell you not to change my emotions." Jasper raised his hands. "Just doing my job, no need to get snappy." Carlisle put a hand to his head. "If I had known raising teens by myself would have been this hard, I would have done everything differently." A woman with a short hair cut came waltzing in. "No, you wouldn't have. I would have seen it." She said. Carlisle relaxed at her voice. "Alice, you are my favorite right now."
This made everyone else make a noise of offense. He looked at them all with a pointed look. "Tell me I'm wrong." They made no movement, too. Carlisle nodded and looked to Edward. "Since you started this, you're finding a way to make sure she keeps our secret." Edward looked at him. "I need a week, I'm going to Alaska." Rosalie chuckled from behind him. Edward turned to her. "What's so funny?" He asked. Rosalie raised an eyebrow. "Alaska, Edward of all the places, why Alaska?" She said. The buff male looked at her. "Come on, we all know why. He has a chick they do it." Edward looked at him. "Emmett, do us all a favor and shut up." Rosalie looked at Emmett and rolled her eyes before walking away. Emmett looked at her with a 'what did I say look', "Babe, what did I do?" He asked. Edward chuckled. "You didn't notice her hair." Emmett rolled his eyes and called to her following her.
Carlisle shakes his head. "And on that note, I'm going to my office." He said, walking up the stairs. Alice looked to Edward. "How are you feeling?" She asked. Edward shakes his head. "I messed up.. I think I need to head to the basement." He said. Alice nodded and looked at him. "Then you're leaving for Alaska." She mentioned. Edward sighed. "Can't you turn that off?" He asked. Alice gave him a look. "Can you turn off reading people's thoughts?" Edward looked at her. "If that was that easy, I wouldn't be in pain all the time.. least with Bella, I can be free of that." Alice frowned. "Just be safe, please." Edward nodded and opened the door to the basement and walked down the steps. Alice turned to Jasper, who held her hand. The two then made their way outside to go hunting.
Carlisle shuts his office door and sits at his desk. He messaged someone on his computer and sighed, laying his head down on the desk. "I wish you were here." He muttered. He looked up and pulled his desk drawer open. He then pulled out an oval necklace and opened it. There, inside, were two pictures. One of himself and a blonde woman. They looked happy and free. On the other side stood Edward and a little brunette girl. He sighed, closing his eyes. When all of a sudden he was in a memory. One that almost seemed too real to be a memory.
It was a busy day at the clinic. The year seemed to be far back. He looked to the calander. It read August 22nd 1918. He blinked and heard someone say they were leaving since the last patient had come in. He nodded as he went to chart something. The door opened, and he didn't look up yet. "I'm assuming you forgot something?" He asked. He then heard a cough, and he looked up. His eyes caught blue eyes that seemed to look into his soul. He felt his undead heart start to beat. He seemed to be pulled to this woman. At that moment, time stopped. He then looked to see the woman accompanied by a boy and girl. He saw a wedding band around her finger, and his world shattered. He shook out of the thought. "Sorry, I wasn't aware I had another patient." He said. The woman shakes her head. "You dont.. I mean, I wasn't sure if you'd be able to help right away." She said. Carlisle took note of the boy holding his right arm. He nodded and guided them to his little office.
"It's not a problem." He tells her. She nodded and pushed the boy to tell him what had happened. The boy looked to her, and she sighed. "So I don't know if it's broken..he was." The boy immediately interrupted. "I fell outside when I tried to help my sister." His mother looked down at him in shock. Carlisle understood that he wasn't telling the truth but decided not to ask anything. "Fell, huh? Well, let me just take a look at your arm." He reached out, but the boy wasn't too fond of that. His mother looked at him. "Edward, let Dr. Cullen, see your arm." Edward frowned and let Carlisle take a look. "Well, Mrs.." he paused. The woman looked at him. "Oh, Mason, Elizabeth Mason." She said. Carlisle nodded. He had heard about the Mason family due to him being alive for so long, and everyone knew about Mr. Mason being a well-known person. "Right, well, Mrs. Mason, it seems like your son only has a sprained arm. It should heal quickly, but I will give him a temporary cast."
She nodded. "That's good news." She said. Carlisle nodded. He got up, pulled a drawer out, and put a cast on his arm. It wasn't common in this time, but Carlisle managed to be able to make it for the time. He then gave Edward a sucker. The boy gave it to his sister. She immediately smiled, and the lights started to flicker. Carlisle frowned, looking up, and he noticed Elizabeth gulp. He figured she was just scared. "Don't worry, it's an old building." Elizabeth nodded, not seeming to believe him. "Right, well, thank you, Doctor." Carlisle looked at her. "You can call me Carlisle." He offered his hand for her to shake. She smiled and shook his hand. "Thank you, Carlisle." She said, trying out his name. "We should get going. Edward, what do you say?" She asked. Edward looked at him. "Thank you." Carlisle gave him a smile. "Of course." He walked them to the door and she goes to pay. He shakes his head. "This one's on me." He said.
Elizabeth shakes her head. "I have to pay you something for getting us in." Carlisle shakes his head. "It's what I do." Elizabeth looked at him for a moment and then gasped. "Do you like pie?" She asked him. He looked shocked at the question, but he nodded. "I wouldn't turn down a pie." Elizabeth smiled. "Okay, I'll bake a pie, and I'll give it to you tomorrow." Carlisle shakes his head. "I couldn't possibly." Elizabeth stopped him. "Ahh, you said you couldn't turn it down besides, it's what I do." She said, turning his words onto him. He chuckled. "Sneaky, Mrs. Mason." She frowned at the last name. "Please, if you want me to call you Carlisle, then call me Elizabeth." She smiled.
"I miss her too." A voice rang out, shaking Carlisle from the memory. He looked up from his office to see Edward standing in the doorway. His demeanor saddned. Carlisle felt guilty and nodded. "Sorry." He said. Edward shook his head. "Don't be sorry, she was your mate." He said. Carlisle sighed. "I realized it too late." Edward crossed his arms. "Better late than never.." Carlisle sighed. "Well, Alaska, huh?" He asked. Edward nodded. "Just for a couple of days." He said. Carlisle looked at him. "Do you think she's?" He asked. Edward shrugged. "I honestly don't know, I mean maybe.. but why." Carlisle shakes his head. "Fate is funny that way." Edward scoffed. "Got that right, anyways I'll tell Carmen you said hello." Carlisle nodded. "Tell her that I'm expecting more samples from her end." Edward nodded. "Will do." He turned to leave.
"One more thing, try to end it with Irina." Carlisle tells him. Edward looked at him. "Yeah, don't worry." He then leaves knowing that wasn't possible. Carlisle sighed. "But I do worry." He sat back in his chair, putting a hand to his cheek. "It's what Elizabeth wanted me to do." He tells himself. He then decided to visit both hers and Edward's sisters grave in Chicago but was afraid to leave his other children alone, well, mostly Emmett. He figured Alice saw his decision and would tell him she had it handled and to go. He wondered just what demons would haunt him this time.
