Nikki Meets Her Ohana

That evening, the rest of the team arrived at the ranch. They walked up to the door and knocked. Steve greeted opened the door. When he opened it, the team got their first look at Nikki. Steve cradled her in his arms as everyone crowded around to say hi to her. "You wanna hold her, Grace?" Cath called from behind Steve. She walked over to Grace. "Yeah sure if that's okay," Grace said, grinning ear to ear. "Steve, do you care if I have the baby for just a second?" Cath asked. "Yeah sure," he said, carefully handing her the baby. Cath and Grace walked over to the couch. "Okay here ya go," Cath said, handing Grace the baby. Grace cradled the baby carefully and smiled down at her. "Hi Nikki," Grace said, lightly tickling the baby's stomach. Nikki laughed and laughed. Danny and the rest of the group joined them at the couch. "I can't wait til I have a baby," Grace said. "I never want to hear that from your mouth again," said Danny. Everyone laughed and took turns holding Nikki. Finally, around 7 everyone got settled into the house. Danny and Grace shared a room, Grover had his own, Chin had his own, and Kono had her own. Steve and Cath were in another room which had Nikki's crib in it. And finally, Mrs. Rollins was in her regular room. After everyone was settled, McGarrett cooked a big dinner. Everyone enjoyed the food and the company. After dinner it was 11 o'clock, so people started getting ready for bed. Finally, around 11:30 everyone was settled in bed and going to sleep. Cath lied on her side of the bed, wide awake. She couldn't sleep that night. Something was wrong. She didn't know what, but something was definitely wrong. She quietly got up to check on Nikki around 2 am. She picked up the baby and walked into the living room. She sat down on the couch and cradled the baby. A sudden noise to the left of her caused her to jerk around. There stood Steve rubbing his eyes. He walked over and sat beside Cath. She rested her head on his shoulder. For a minute they sat in silence, then Nikki began to make noises. Steve held her tiny hand and kissed her forehead. After a minute, Cath carried Nikki back to the bedroom with Steve following closely. Cath put Nikki back in her crib and got into the bed beside Steve. "Want to tell me what that was all about?" he whispered into her ear. "I just couldn't sleep," Cath replied. "Oh, are you sure? You're acting like something's bothering you," he said. "I'm fine," Cath said. She smiled at him and kissed him goodnight. He watched her roll over on her side away from him, and he knew that she wasn't going to sleep. He could see the reflection of her open eyes through the vase sitting on the nightstand. "Hey," he said. Cath rolled over to face him. "Yeah," she said. "Look I just want you to know, I love you and I'm not mad at you at all for hiding the baby from me. I know I told you earlier, but I feel like it's still bothering you. You did what you had to do, and I respect that," he said. A tear formed in Cath's eye. She smiled and Steve pulled her close to him. He kissed her passionately and that made all of Cath's worrying going away. She felt every problem, every fear, every bad memory, everything except for pure happiness wash away. After Steve pulled away, Cath whispered in his ear, "I love you, more than anything in the world." And with that, she went to sleep. The next morning that were awakened by a very panicked Danny. "I can't find Grace anywhere!" he said. "Ok just calm down, buddy," said Steve. "My daughter is missing, I can not calm down, Steven!" Danny said. "Have you tried calling her or looking for her on the porch?" Cath asked. "Uh, well, see..." Danny was cut off by Steve. "You mean you woke me and Cath up at 7 am here time, 3 am home time just to have us state the obvious?" Steve said. "Well Steven, usually my daughter goes nowhere without telling me! Especially in a place she's never been!" Danny said angrily. He reached into his pocket and got out his phone. He dialed Grace's number. Her phone started ringing, but she didn't answer. She obviously didn't have it with her. Danny walked over to the glass door that lead to the patio. He looked outside, and there she was, sitting with Jack, Mrs. Rollins's Australian Shepherd. Grace sat hugging her knees in the chair staring off into the distance. The dog sat at the side of the chair staring into the distance as well. Only then did Danny see a tear slip from Grace's eye. He opened the door which was greeted by startled looks from both Grace and the dog. The dog's ears perked up and the hair on its neck stood on end. "It's ok Jack," Grace said, petting the dog. It finally calmed down and Danny walked over. "Hey monkey," he said. "Hey," Grace replied, returning her gaze to the distance. "What's the matter?" Danny asked. "Nothing," Grace said, still expressionless. "You know you can tell me," Danny said. "I don't really want to talk about it," Grace said. "Ok, well when you're ready, just let me know," Danny said getting up from the chair. "Love you Danno," Grace said as Danny walked inside. "Love you too Monkey," Danny said. He want inside and found Steve. "Hey, I don't know what is going on with Grace, but when I walked outside, she had tears on her face and then she lied and said nothing was wrong," Danny said. "Do you want me to go try to talk to her?" Steve asked. "No that's too obvious, she'll know I sent you out," Danny said. "Well maybe Cath can talk to her. She's changing the baby but she'll be done in a minute," Steve said. "Ok. I guess it won't hurt to try," Danny said. Just then, Cath came into the living room. Steve filled her in and she went outside to check on Grace.
