[ Author's NOTE: I know I’m late, but what can I do? It took some time. I’ve been a bit busy and depressed because of the exam. Even now, I have written this with great difficulty of time, hope you like it ]
Author's POV
Today, Radhi had an exhausting day at the hospital, juggling multiple surgeries. By the time she finished, she was drained. Heading to her cabin to pack up, she noticed numerous missed calls from her mother.
“Why so many missed calls? Is everything okay?” Radhi wondered anxiously as she dialed her mother's number.
After three rings, her mother, Priti, answered.
“Mom, did you call?” Radhi asked immediately.
She could hear a lot of traffic noise in the background. “Mom, are you outside?” she asked, her concern growing.
“Yes, I’m out right now,” her mother replied briskly. “I’ll talk to you later.” The call ended abruptly.
Radhi muttered to herself, “Strange! She calls me first and then says she’s busy. Never mind, I’ll call her when I get home.” She felt a twinge of worry but pushed it aside.
Sighing, Radhi continued packing the remaining items. After a final check, she turned off the lights in her cabin, locked the door, and started making her way home.
As she reached the reception and completed her biometric sign-out, her heart skipped a beat. She spotted someone who initially filled her with joy. But then, panic set in. She quickly stepped back, hiding behind a wall.
"Oh my God! What’s happening? How did they get here?" Radhi said under her breath, eyes wide with shock.
Standing at the reception was none other than her mother, Priti. Radhi felt a surge of fear. "If they see me, they'll chew me up right here, and my mom will definitely kill me today!" she thought, her heart pounding in her chest.
Her mother was talking to the receptionist, looking quite stern. Radhi couldn’t make out the conversation, but when her mother turned around, Radhi’s heart sank. She was caught off guard and felt a wave of panic.
“Mom!!! Here?” Radhi whispered in disbelief. “But why is my mother here?” Her mind raced with confusion and dread.
Lost in a whirlwind of thoughts, Radhi was jolted by the loud ring of her phone. Her heart leaped to her throat. She fumbled to mute it and saw Ayansh calling.
Already on edge, Radhi answered in a hushed voice, “Yes, what happened?”
“Did you leave the hospital? Are you out?” Ayansh’s voice came through the line.
“No, not yet,” Radhi replied in the same strained whisper.
“Get ready, I’m coming over,” Ayansh said, his tone cheerful.
“No, you can’t come right now,” Radhi insisted urgently, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Why are you whispering? And why can't I come?” Ayansh asked, confused.
“Just don’t come now,” Radhi said hastily and ended the call.
Radhi's POV
I saw my mother heading towards the lift from the reception. Panic gripped me. I had to get out of here fast. Trying to be as inconspicuous as possible, I made my way to the parking lot, my heart racing.
In the parking lot, I quickly located my car. I got in and locked the doors, feeling a brief sense of relief wash over me as I finally sat down.
My breath was ragged from the tension and rushing. I tried to calm myself down, taking deep breaths.
