Chapter 5

On that same evening, as the sun set, Ariam was packing all the food she had stored, having heated it up, in a large white sheet.

[I feel very anxious.]

Having finished packing everything, she thought of something.

[But I can't just leave like this; I have no other choice but to ask for a favor.]

..............

"Princess Ariam, you know that what you're asking me to do is very dangerous for me, right?"

Berta asked that question angrily.

Seated in her room, Ariam and Berta looked at each other.

Ariam, somewhat scared by Berta's gaze, insisted once again.

"Please, I beg you. You're the only one who knows and hasn't said anything; I implore you to cover for me while I'm away."

Crossing her arms, Berta responded,

"As far as I've noticed, you only go out every two or three days when the others are fulfilling their duties."

Ariam nodded, somewhat surprised.

"If that's the case, why not wait until the day after tomorrow?"

Anxious, Ariam replied,

"The thing is, something tells me I have to see them today, let's say it's a hunch."

"And who will you go see if I may ask?"

Panicking, Ariam stammered,

"W-w-well... um... no one important!"

Berta frowned a lot at her response.

"How dare you not be able to tell me who you're going to see when you're asking me to risk my life covering for you."

With great regret, Ariam closed her eyes, lowered her head, and clasped her hands on her legs.

"..."

Relaxing her expression, Berta gave Ariam a warm smile.

Ariam, without lifting her head, widened her eyes in surprise.

Raising her face, she was amazed to see Berta.

"...Berta, how did you do that?"

"Silly girl."

Berta stood up, approached her, grabbed her head, and pressed it against her abdomen.

"You know you don't have to ask for a favor; it's enough for you to order me."

With her head wrapped in Berta's arms, Ariam was very surprised.

"I'm so glad you're so kind."

In response, Ariam wrapped her arms around Berta's waist.

"Thank you very much, Berta."

"Don't worry and go see those kids."

"If you already knew, why did you ask?"

"It's fun to tease you."

Ariam smiled at Berta's words.

[How does she manage to notice, and others don't?]

..................

Flying towards the children, Ariam carried the bag with all the food. She left when the sun had set to be less visible.
