I must've been, what, 14 then? Goodbye middle school, hello high school! I think? Japan was a very confusing place for my age. The only reason I was there was because of U.A. It's basically the Harvard or Oxford of hero academies, it's the best of the best. If I wanted to be the best of the best and to prove my point, I had to go there. Plus, it'd be one of the only good things I'd done in my life up until that point.
-
''Hoooly shit!'' I dropped my bags after leaving the airport, looking at the city before me.
"This place is fucking massive, hahahaha!" I picked by bags up immediately after and ran towards the road out in front of the airport, dropping them again.
''I can't wait to see what this place has in store for me.''
I was carrying two suitcases, one with all my necessities in it, like clothes and stuff, and the other was my prized possession, my suit. At that time, it was heavily based off of my dads designs with a few tweaks done on my behalf. I was confident, one might say I was overconfident, but I was excited to see what I could do. What 𝘸𝘦 could do.
''Taxi! Heeeey!'' I waved it down with money in my hand, I hopped in."Welcome to Japan, American! Where would you like to go?"
''How did you know I was American?''
"You Americans all dress the same! And you all wave down taxis with money in your hand!' He laughed at me, slapping the steering wheel.
''Ok, whatever man! Do you know of any cheap motels with... Uh... How do I put this, like, garage space? Somewhere I can build things, like a workshop.''
"It's your lucky day meeting me then!" The man chuckled.
"There isn't any motels like that in Japan, but a relative of mine is renting out his place to a person willing to pay."
He looked in his rear view mirror at me.
"Considering how young you look, you are probably here for U.A. Academy aren't you?"
''Correcta-mundo, sir!''
"Right again!" He laughed.
"It's relatively cheap, so don't worry. He's a good guy."
''Sign me up then, take me there!''
"Sounds good!"
He chuckled,
"The names Tomonori, Tomonori Suzuka."
''Good to meet you Tomonori. I'm Y/N L/N.''
That right there, man, that was my ticket to success. If he hadn't been the cab I waved down, I probably would've ended up anywhere but where I am. I got lucky. It was the luckiest moment of my life.
-
We ended up talking the whole way. I told him about my aspirations of becoming a hero with my suit despite my setback of being quirk less. He thought I was crazy, but that hadn't been the first time I was told that. It didn't bother me. We got along very well. I didn't know it then, but that was the first of many great friendships I'd make there in Japan.
"We're here!" He parked his cab in front of the house. It was night time by then.
"He's got a garage in there that he doesn't use, so if you want, talk to him about using it."
"You bet I will, Tommy!"
I dug into my pockets to pay the man, but he held his palm up.
"Don't worry Y/N, I won't strain you thin of money. I insist. You're going to need it for the ride ahead."
I smiled.
''Thanks Tomonori, I really appreciate that. You come around and visit here often?''
"Eh, sometimes. I come here occasionally to drink with Asuto. And by the way, you were asleep while I did it but I called him telling him I was bringing you here."
''Alright, awesome sauce.''
I opened the door of the cab and closed it, waving to him as he drove off.
It was a quaint, small house. It was a one story with a garage on the side, vacant of anything on the inside.
I went to knock on the door, but Asuto opened it before I could."Heeey, you're Y/N, right?"
''In the flesh!''
"Ha! I like that! Asuto's the name, Asuto Mamoru."
''Coolio. Y/N L/N.''
We shook hands. He was younger than I expected, He couldn't have been older than 19. That was a plus. Then again, I could've guessed something like that compared to Tomonori's age. Tomonori was 20.
I entered the house and we began to talk, we got along really well. We both shared a common interest in becoming a hero. Asuto was working on getting his hero license.
"My quirk is 𝙈𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙢. It allows me to generate a powerful magnetic field around my body. This field can attract or repel metallic objects. How about you Y/N, what's your quirk?"
''Heh, it may be surprising, but I don't have a quirk.''
"But then how do you plan on getting into U.A?!"
''I have something better, I have a suit of armor that'll help me do all the things a hero can. People may call it a desperate attempt at latching onto a childhood dream, but I see it completely differently. It's something that cqn be evolved. Hell, I have multiple ideas in mind for more suits to come! Invisibility, Anti-Heat, Anti-Freeze, Deep Sea, Deep Space, the list can go on! But what's stopping me?''
"..."
''...''
''money.''
"OF COURSE! I'll help you find a job to bring in some payment!"
''I definitely need that. I'll spare some of that towards rent.''
"Awesome. Since you need a place to build or improve these suits, feel free to use my garage. I don't have anything in there, and to be honest, I don't really use it. Follow me."
We both got up off the couch we we're seated on and exited through the backdoor of the house, and headed towards the garage.
"Fair warning, it isn't incredibly spacious or anything, it's like your average garage. You've got space but not anything crazy."
I chuckled.
''If it's got a roof, it'll work.''
We opened the backdoor of the garage and entered.
