                                                                                            Chapter  2

Sitting down for dinner the next day, a realization dawned on me. I'll be going to the local Dove High School in a few days. I don't know much about Dove High School so I felt a little nervous thinking of my first day in high school. School starts on August 12th and today (August 10th) is coming to an end. Chewing on my spaghetti, I listened to my mom describe her days in high school and how she and my father met. When a basketball came flying into the garden while my mom was in Gardening Club and dad came chasing after it, then it was Grandma's turn and she told us how she also met Grandpa in the same high school and how magical it felt being there. I thought for a moment then laughed to myself. Sounds like a tradition to meet someone special there. Maybe like a spell? Or a curse! Like in a fairytale. I giggled again at the thought.

"We'll go shopping for school supplies tomorrow honey so be sure to get some rest."

I put my dishes in the dishwasher before turning and smiling, "Okay Mom." I said goodnight to everyone and headed up to my room. Giggling, I get ready for bed and imagine how my first day of school might go. Meeting new people, making new friends, and maybe I'll get a boyfriend here. Who knows, maybe I'll be like Mom and Grandma. Find my true love at this school. I smile at the thoughts rushing through my head before sleep takes hold of me.

Morning came all too soon and it brought the aggravating tune of my alarm clock with it. I groaned and reached, blindly searching for the source of the noise. Finally finding it, I shut off the alarm and sat up in bed, and stretched. I plodded out of bed after sitting there for a few minutes questioning if I really wanted to be a productive member of society. I opened the door to my closet and rummaged for something to wear. Deciding on a pink t-shirt and some skinny jeans, I grabbed my favorite shoes and put my hair into an updo ponytail. I looked in the mirror and nodded my head once, satisfied.

The aroma of blueberry muffins wafted into the hallway as I walked into the dining room. My grandma always loves to brag about how she only uses fresh ingredients when making them. She gave me a kiss on my cheek as I came up next to her.

"Can I help Grandma?" I asked with a yawn. She chuckled before responding. "Can you grab me the muffin pan, sweetheart? It's on that shelf up top." As I hand her the pan, a movement drags my attention to the window above the sink. Noticing my pause, my grandma turned to look out the window as well. "Oh," my grandmother gasped. "They rarely come out of the woods; it must be a sign of a good day ahead." She smiled at me before turning back to the muffin pan. I smiled and continued to watch the deer. The soft rays of the morning sun shone down through the leaves, creating a breathtaking scene. The clank of a spoon snapped me out of the enchanting moment and I went back to help with breakfast.

"Alright sweetheart, the muffins should be done in about 20 minutes. Why don't you go explore the garden while you wait?" I blinked at her. We have a garden?  Excited at the thought, I replied with an "Okay!" Then, I ran to grab my shoes and a light jacket and went out back to be greeted by a beautiful array of flowers of all different breeds. I was in awe as I walked through the garden, taking in all the colors and aromas. I was taken aback, no wonder that deer came back here! I took a deep breath, the crisp air of the morning mixed with the slight smell of the flowers and early morning dew filling my lungs. The atmosphere was peaceful and refreshing and before long, the muffins were done. My grandmother came out of the house carrying a tray with tea and muffins and settled down at a nearby picnic table. Shortly after, my parents came out and joined us with coffee in hand. We sat in relative silence with occasional conversation. The muffins were, as always, delicious and we sat for a while longer after we ate our fill to enjoy the tranquil morning, the only sounds being the light breeze blowing through the trees and the singing of birds. I was drowsily watching a bee buzzing from flower to flower when my mom asked if I was ready to go shopping for my school supplies. I replied, yes.

As we headed to the local market I noticed through the car window some kids walking along the sidewalk. It made me excited and nervous to see new people around my age in high school, soon I thought. I will soon attend the school these people attend. When we got to the local market we headed into the slide opening doors. I glanced at my mother and she had written a list of what I would need for the school year. After seeing the list she started to mention we would head to another store to get some clothes and a backpack for my new school. I smiled as we headed through the store to get my school supplies. I picked some simple things like a binder, a notebook, and a pouch that was in pastel colors. I then slowly grabbed a small pack of stickers to decorate my new binder. After grabbing these supplies we went to the self-checkout and left the store after finishing paying for everything. We then headed to the next store down the street from where we just left from. When entering the next store I noticed a sweater on a hanger. It was a simple color with a tint of pink. I asked my mother if I might be able to ask for the sweater. My mother glanced at the sweater and glanced back at me. "How about this, let's first get you a backpack and lunchbox, and depending on how much we spend on that if we don't spend too much then yes you can get it." I smiled as we walked over to the backpacks. I picked a simple light pink backpack. It was planned but I didn't mind it and found a decent bag to work as my new lunch box. We went to the checkout and I was surprised to see the bag I picked was on discount. My mother smiled at me and said "Whyn't you walk back over to that sweater and grab it." I smiled back and headed to grab one in my size. "Thank you, mom." As we started to wrap things up we finally headed home while sunset started to set.

We arrived home and I carried my bags to my room. I got everything set out on my floor and prepared everything for my new day coming tomorrow. I thought to myself... I can't wait to see what it is like there. I soon heard my grandmother call me and as I wrapped things up I headed to the dinner table. After all the food I ate I went to sleep and woke up to a new exciting day.
