Chapter 4
As I headed through the lunchroom doors I heard a voice call out my name as I turned around I was more surprised to see the boy from earlier. I felt my face flush as I questioned why he came toward me in such a rush. "Hey, you really know how to get through the hall quickly." He said while catching his breath. "Oh, uhm, sorry I didn't think anyone would come talk to me." As he regained his breath he finally said, "Yeah I probably should have tried to talk to you before we packed up from class or something." He said this while looking a little embarrassed. I smiled and continued, "So what did you need from me?" "Oh uhm I was hoping we could eat lunch together." "Oh uhm sure, I replied shyly." As this was happening random students started yelling at us to get out of the way. We moved and headed to a table that was empty nearby. "So your name is Lucas? I believe that was what Seren said." "Yup, that's right." As we continued to be awkward Seren started to come toward us the conversation started like this....
Seren: Hey Guys, how was your first class Izzy?
Me: Uhm it was okay.
Lucas: Turns out me and Izzy have the same first-period
Seren: That's great and if you ever need help Lucas is the best when it comes to helping
Me: Uhm that's great I guess
Seren: Oh have you had the chance to look over the club list?
Me: Not really
Seren: Well I have one recommendation you can hear more about it from Lucas as well
Me: Oh, What club is it
Seren: The m...
Lucas: The matchmaker club
Seren: You didn't have to interrupt me.
Me: What is the matchmaker club?
Seren: Simply put it is a club that is run by an old tradition of matching two souls together, it is quite an interesting club and you basically get to play matchmaker and meet new people. I think it would be a great way for you to get to know others and find a way to help others. It'll be perfect for you since you are new.
Me: Uhm I'll have to think about it but is there anything else about this club
Lucas: Well if you join you not only will have to figure out some of your peers but help them with their unrequited love or sometimes the tougher cases where someone is in love with someone else but doesn't realize the person who is right there
As we talked a little bit more the bell began to ring and I realized how long this day was going to be. I did feel interested in the club but I'm not so certain if I would be the right person. I mean playing matchmaker must be tough and what if I screwed up. Before I got my thoughts to take over Seren started to say her goodbyes since she had an important class to get to and Lucas realized we had a similar schedule just not the same last two periods. He led me to the next class and this time it was Science.
When we entered the classroom I saw a couple of faces from my previous class but not many and Lucas asked me to sit with him. Thanks to him I was able to get through science. There were a few things I didn't understand but he would explain what we needed to do a lot simpler. When I realized how well he taught I thought he must be a tutor or something but I also noticed that I got a couple of people staring at me. It must be because I'm the new student I thought to myself. It was a little embarrassing after all but luckily, I made a new friend who kindly helped me through my school day.
My next two classes were English and History; Lucas escorted me to my English class and he even offered to escort me to my History class but I kindly rejected him since he already helped me out a lot. I luckily got through English and a student from my English class named Pansy helped me find my History class. She was really nice and she mentioned how she was in the craft club and how much she loves frilly things. It was nice meeting her and then I got through history. When the bell rang I was lucky enough to get through the crowded halls and I even bumped into Pansy again. She led me to the front door and she even mentioned she is also a part of the Matchmaker club and she can't wait to see the new recruits for the year and how fun it is going to be to make some matches, especially around Valentine's Day.
I asked her more about why it is more fun on Valentine's Day and she explained to me about a legend this school loves to tell. The legend was that once there were two cupids that landed on earth. One was an anti-cupid and the other a love-cupid. The cupids both found comfort in the town near them and helped the townspeople. Some ended in heartbreak while others found a match and they say that both cupids gave a gift to two parts of the land. One is said to be on the land our school is built on and the other well I don't really like talking about it...
Anyways, since this legend the school wanted to find some way to spread the cupid love that was once here, and now we have a matchmaker and another thing those who usually match never break up. Isn't that amazing? I was a little surprised but thought that it sounded interesting I mentioned how I may look into becoming a member but I was still thinking about it. She seemed ecstatic after I mentioned that and said if I do wish to join she would put a word in. One last thing she mentioned is how not only is the gift amazing but it is also what attracted so many half breeds but those that are full breeds be careful sometimes they can be dangerous. After this, she and I parted as I saw my mother's car approaching I was excited to tell her a little about today.
