Present
Jungkook's POV
She slipped out of the party like a frightened mouse, scurrying away as if running was her natural instinct. It's her damn trademark move, always bolting at the first chance she gets. But not this time. I promised her there would be no escape. I dialed Tae Hyung's number, relishing in the power I held over her.
"Get ready. My angel is ready to be brought to where she truly belongs - by my side," I commanded.
His voice dripped with skepticism, questioning my motives. "Are you sure about this? Kidnapping her could ruin any future plans you have with her. She won't love a man who takes her against her will."
I chuckled darkly, "I don't need her love. She promised me something and then she ran away. It's time she faces the consequences."
I disconnected the call, buttoning my jacket as I left the party. My destination? Where my angel was. I could have followed her, but she had an uncanny sensitivity to her surroundings. Even the slightest thing wouldn’t escape her notice. Following her without being detected was impossible.
Half an hour later, I parked my car near her apartment building and walked to the spot where I had instructed Taehyung to wait.
"Finally, the man of the hour," Taehyung greeted me. "Just for the record, I asked you not to kidnap her. I even tried to talk you out of it. If the hyungs ask, I’ll claim I was forced into this, and you’re on your own when they return."
Taehyung had been giving me the same speech for days since I hatched this plan. But I knew my hyungs—they’d understand once they learned the reason behind my actions. And if they didn’t? Well, that was their problem. I wouldn’t give my angel a chance to slip away this time.
"Traitor," I muttered, flipping him off.
"can take a bullet for you, Jungkook, no doubt there. But Jin and Namjoon hyung’s lecture? Just not my thing, bro," he said, shrugging his shoulders. The dim light of the alleyway cast shadows on the walls, and the air smelled of damp concrete and cigarette smoke.
He casually retrieved two cigarettes, lighting them with practiced ease, then passed one to me. The ember glowed as he stuffed the other between his lips, inhaling deeply before exhaling a thick plume of smoke.
"When will we go inside?" he asked, nonchalant despite the tension that hung in the air.
I glanced at her window, always closed, like a fortress guarding its secrets. She was a mystery—a puzzle I’d spent six years unraveling. Too good at hide and seek, she slipped through my fingers like smoke. "Has he returned with the kid?" I asked, my gaze fixed on the glass.
