(Mild sexual content in the last half of this one. I don't think it's much tbh. Also whoo whoo we got lore headcanons in this one. Important stuff going forward that hopefully won't age like milk when ep8 comes out.)
Drip... drip...
The sound was etched in her memory of that moment.
Drip... drip...
...
It was only supposed to be a supply run. An abandoned ship drifted in space a short distance away. With any luck, the thing had only run into a technical problem and was merely evacuated. J sat in the pilot chair, hands clenched to the flight controls, as she captained the ship toward the vessel.
The sleek, metal exterior of the other ship came into view on the displays. J flew around it for a bit looking for any sort of hatch she could open. One finally presented itself, and she flew in close to it.
She groaned. The cold of space used to be delightful, but since her temperatures had cooled down, it actually felt pretty cold to her now. She exited her ship, a tether in hand which she quickly punched into the hull of the ship. She used a keypad next to the hatch to gain entrance into the ship.
She stretched as the cabin's gravity brought her to the floor. Right, time for the supply run. The ship still had power and the lights were on, which was good. Maybe there were some good finds to be made here.
...
The bridge unveiled a sobering sight. The crew of the ship, still on it. Their bodies lay in various states of decay, J grimacing at the sight. Their demise must've happened not long ago. She decided to leave them be after wiping a familiar pen off a console.
It was then she noticed it. Laying down on the side of the area, was a dog. Her tail twitched.
"What, mutt?", she glared. The dog continued to look back at her, an alert look on its face. Her head tilted, "aren't dogs supposed to be stupid, annoying...". It only silently stared back at her.
She huffed, "just don't get in the way... or expect me to take you in". Its tail wagged and it got up to follow her.
...
Her audio receptors were ringing. It was the first thing she realized as she came to. Blackness. Her world was pitch black and her head full of an awful noise. Her vision was completely offline. The blast must have gotten her good.
...Blast?
Right, something exploded in the cargo bay of the ship.
So what was dragging her...?
Drip.
The ground had fluid over it.
Drip.
What was dripping so close to her head?
Drip. Splash!
One of her eyes came back online just in time to see a small torrent of blood drop to the metal floor.
Blood?
The dog had its mouth on her uniform as it dragged her away from the storage room. Half of its face had been brutalized by the blast, an eye missing from its socket. Blood poured from its wounds.
And the floor was covered in scarlet.
Drip .
N was the first to come to. His body was quick to recognize that Uzi wasn't where she usually was, that's to say "in his arms". He blinked, briefly panicked, before realizing that she was instead at his back, her own back against his.
