Hermione
Of course, I don't faint when I want the Earth to swallow me whole. No, it only happens at inconvenient times.
Certainly not when Narcissa Malfoy, Henrik Laurent and Draco's assistant are standing at his office door with their mouths wide open in shock. Not when the gown I'm given doesn't cover all my bits, or when Draco's so close I could have practically kissed him.. No, never those times.
Glancing over at Draco nervously, I can see his eyes pleading with me. As if the mind speak thing wasn't enough of a clue. God, I'm coming to the startling realization that I'd likely do anything Malfoy asked of me. And that... that's a fucking terrifying thought.
How is so calm and collected right now? Jesus Christ, he's something else.
Narcissa's eyes bounce between Draco and I, a slow (rather frightening) smile graces her perfect, and somehow, ageless face.
"You mean to say you weren't aware your son was in a relationship?" Henrik says, his dark eyes narrowing on Draco in suspicion.
I scoot closer to Draco, laying my head on his chest in hopes of painting a more convincing picture. That and it seemed like a good idea since I'm apparently a touch starved fan girl for him.
Narcissa doesn't even skip a beat. "Of course I knew my son was with our dear Hermione. If you recall, my question was if he called her his girlfriend, not if she is his girlfriend. That would be because she's graduated to fiancee."
"Narcissa," I say, clucking my tongue as if I'm admonishing her. "I thought we agreed promoted would be the term we used going forward. Graduated sounds a lot less romantic. Promoted at least sounds like Draco had a choice in the matter."
"You're right! Seems my age is catchibg up with me."
"Oh please. You're sharper than a knife. But as Draco stated earlier, tell the board we're excited as well," I say giving them a soft smile before tilting my head and looking up at Draco.
He gives me a lovely smile in return and then he does the one thing that might make me fall in love with him. I'm such a sucker for them in every romance book I read, or when I see others do it to their partners. I swoon as he kisses my forehead softly. Unable to help myself, I close my eyes in bliss.
Content. Yes, that's what I'm feeling.
"You both are precious. I'll see you at family dinner on Wednesday dears," Narcissa says, blowing air kisses our way as she excuses herself.
"Right. Well if you'll excuse us, I'd like to finish up this exam," Draco states, pulling me closer into him. Until I'm basically in front of him. And no complaints here.
Henrik looks abashed, clearing his throat before giving us a parting nod and leaving.
Leaving us both alone. Again.
We both listen as their footsteps recede. Only then does Malfoy put distance between us. Why do I feel so cold already without his heat? What is going on with me? With us?
"Let me throw up some privacy charms," Draco mumbles, getting his wand out and getting started.
Once he turns around, I just look at him expectantly, since it seems unsure exactly where to begin myself. Draco's pale cheeks heat, and it occurs to me I don't think I've truly seen him genuinely embarrassed. I've seen him get his aghast and indignant yes, but not embarrassed really.
"Well? This is the part where you chew me a new arsehole-"
"Ew. My mouth is not going near your old arsehole to make you a new one. And I don't want to chew you out. I just want you to explain to me what's going on," I say, wishing that I'd changed back into my clothes instead of feeling vulnerable in this damned hospital gown.
