Hermione
Gods... why is he so handsome? If he wasn't, there's no way I'd have put my damned foot in my mouth earlier. Embarrassing myself enough for the both of us.
He's looking at me curiously, his expression one of genuine worry, making my heart skip a beat purely because of him. Has he always smelled so divine?
"Granger, are you listening to me?"
"Honestly, no. But I'm listening now," I say, determined to keep my wits about me. Which his looks make irritatingly near impossible.
"I was inquiring if this is something that happens to you often?" he asks softly, his blonde brows furrowed.
I look away, worrying my lip as I debate how much I want to tell him. If at all. It feels wrong and unnecessary to burden him or our friends with my problems. It's not as if anything can be done about it anyway.
"Granger, get out of the brilliant mind of yours and give me an answer. I promise on my healer oath that I won't share any of this with anyone you don't approve of first. I meant what I said about patient confidentiality to the rag tag of a crew we call friends."
Something about his playful half grin has me spilling the truth. Bloody damn dimples.
"This is a very person, very touchy subject for me, Malfoy." The sigh that leaves me is 100% full of dread.
"I promise to handle your truths with great care. You have my word, not just my word, as a healer."
Damn him. With this excellent of bedside manner I'd tell him anything- my bra size, the location of my vibrator stash, my embarrassingly long list of potential baby names-
Get it together, Granger. God. It's not like I've never seen an attractive man before. Or a virgin!
"When we went to save Siris in the Department of Mysteries, Dolohov hit me with a very dark curse." Lifting the side of my shirt slightly so he can see some of the ugly purpled scar, Draco's eyes widen as he fists his hands as if to keep from reaching for me. "The few healers I've seen about it say that my random fainting spells and heart erm- issues stem from it. I tried some experimental treatments, but it's proven to be... irreversible."
I look away as my voice wobbles against my will on the last word. This isn't new news to me by any means, but it's been a long damn time since I've allowed myself to feel this vulnerable.
Before I can face him again, I hear Theo's voice from the other side of Draco's spells. I smile as he somehow knows to lighten the mood even if he can't hear or see what's happening in here.
"I'm telling you, Granger! You'd be living in the lap of luxury. You'd never have to peel another banana by hand."
Schooling my features, I wave my wand and dispel enough of a gap for Theo to see us and hear us properly for a moment. "Theodore, that's an oddly specific thing to promise."
Theo's face alights with a playful mischief that we all know and love him for. Sauntering up to the spelled hole in the doorway, he licks his lips roguishly before speaking again.
Draco sighs, pretending to lose his patience when we all know he enjoys Theo's theatrics just as much as the rest of us. Keeping his eyes on the spot just to the side of where my now covered cursed scar is.
"Hermione, sweet darling. I'd give you the world. Flying hippogriffs would pull our wedding carriage to Notre Dame. There I would make an honest woman of you. Officially make you Lady Nott, so our beautiful and handsome heirs could carry on our prestigious legac-"
Theo's cut short, but I can vaguely see his hands moving about and the mumbles of his fantasy for us through the now resumed privacy spell.
Draco turned around right about the time Theo started spouting romantically about heirs and promptly re-sealed us. I'm surprised to see his face, usually so easygoing, a natural smile on it, seems to be quite annoyed. Perhaps I'm taking up too much of his time. He is a healer. A prestigious one from my understanding.
