Rain trickled down the windows. The thief placed the clusters of forget-me-nots by the tombstone out in front of his bedroom window.

He sat beside it and pressed his knees to his chest. He felt the ground in front of the stone. It felt empty. Nothing was buried below it. It was a headstone without a reason. He lifted his head off his knees.

"One day I'll find you.".

He leaned his head on the top of the tombstone, "Echo is doing great. I really think she's getting along with Gazer. That's the dagger I found. He said he didn't have a name. I'm sure you could have thought of a better name.".

He paused in the silence. "I wish I could talk to you.".

A shadow casted on him from his window as the lights turned on inside.

Cleo looked around the room. She looked past the glass. A worried look crossed her face.

The slender monster let his illusion fade. He returned back to his beastly form. He leaned his head on her chest. His giant eye tiredly blinked at his wife.

Venus smiled.

"Should I keep the illusion on?"

"No, of course not. Get some rest."

Nex pushed his boney claw across his cheek. His flesh was dry and leathery. "Are you sure?".

"I don't wear makeup to bed, why would you need an illusion?" Venus cupped her hands around his face.

Nex gleefully pressed his forehead to hers. The down downstairs door opened. "That's Cacey!" He excitedly raced down.

"Already?" Venus grabbed a candlestick and tried to light it as she stepped down the ladder. She held a match between teeth. Dropping it to the ground as it slid into the hole left by her missing tooth.

A flame lit the wick. Cleo smiled at her.

"Thanks, missy!".

Cacey turned the keys left in the Oddities door and made sure all the curtains were drawn. He took out his dagger and put it on the counter. Nex watched restless.

The thief loosened his cuff and pulled down his sleeve to his elbow.

"Remember when I said it doesn't hurt?".

"Vividly.".

"I need either your blood or."

With his finger he jabbed the cyclop eye of the gentleman monster. Tears streamed down nex face. He whined squinting.

Cacey dragged his dagger across the top of his skin. His black blood beaded out he rubbed it onto his hand and took Nex's hand to dry his own tears. He guided Nex fingers to lock around his hand. He whispered the words to a spell in a foreign tongue. Nex could feel a surge of magic.

The thief hissed in pain and squeezed his wrist. The wound wouldn't heal shut. His magic used in his Aura was depleted: The strongest magic a demihuman had. It took more magic than that to join Nex's soul with him. Cleo was ready and bandaged him up.

"Do you feel any different?". Venus squeaked.

"Nauseating. Like I've eaten a large meal.".

Cacey grunted, "Yeah That's all my magic. You are like a sponge."

"I see."

"Yea. Sorry about your eye. Tears tend to hold a lot of magic, not as much as blood.".

"We should get you home." Cleo advised.

"You could have slept in since you are in a big rush." He flicked his wrist. "I wanted to ask if you found anything about the gravehound?.".

"Nothing. Sorry. I've been too busy helping Venus. Now I'm sure I'll be able to get results."

"Oh." The thief said disappointed. He forced a smile. "Well I've waited 7 years. What is a little longer.".
