Shadowed Prelude: A Fateful Encounter [Phantom Troupe x Reader]

The clashing of a katana with the deafening sound of a piston firing bullets quickly sifted through the air.

I had my katana in my hand, ready to launch the Fifth Breath of Gravity, to defend against the unknown pursuer and to protect Bisky and myself.

"...Breath of Gravity... Fifth Form: Gravity Shield"

A strong barrier was placed in between myself and the attacker, allowing for Bisky to start escaping. I quickly followed, not before I was stopped by the mysterious attacker.

The lady in a maroon skirt and top jumped out from the bushes holding a revolver, with droopy eyes and a short bob. There was a hint of a saffron scent surrounding the lean woman, as the piercing hazelnut eyes looked over at me. Cold, yet warm.

The second person next to her, was a tall lanky man. With a top knot and a samurai uniform. In his right hand poised ready to attack, with an annoyingly smug smirk playing on his lips, was a katana, in similar fashion to me. Eyes filled with intrigue and amusement.

"You. Are you 'Y/N L/N'?"

My brain almost didn't register the question. Shit. The only thought that ran through my brain was to get away from them. As fast as humanely possible.

"I see, so the girl's not answering eh Paku?? BWAHAHAHA, I'll just assume she is the one then!!! I'm going to incapacitate her Paku." The samurai jeered out, clearly amused by the predicament I found myself in with the two unknown attackers.

"No Nobu. You shall not lay a hand on this woman. Chrollo would kill you." the lady glared sharply before answering the man who pouted at the words.

' Chrollo? The motherfucking Chrollo Lucilfer? The leader? Holy crap, I'm so screwed. Hold up, let's not go there, think rationally Y/N, you got this. How to escape? Plan, plan, can I shield myself with Nen and barricade myself in before I dash? Thank god Bisky is safe at least, I would've slapped myself if she wasn't safe.' thoughts whirred in my head, and apparently my reflexes weren't fast enough even with the special Demon Slaying techniques I've trained under, as I felt myself losing consciousness and falling to the ground slowly.

THUD.

As the girl hit the ground, Paku looked over at her, briefly making eye contact with Nobu, the one who knocked the said girl out. Paku gestured for the man to pick up the girl and bring her back to their temporary base, to meet the others. She refused to touch the girl, as Chrollo, who was the boss, always got priority.

In the girl's dreamscape, after being knocked out, she sat up, and stared.

'A fateful encounter' is what ordinary people would call meeting their soulmate for the first time. It was a sweet and beautiful thing. The soulmates who were destined together that found each other would share a loving kiss, and then their souls would unite when their nen willingly wrapped around each others' soulmarks, changing it into a lock, symbolising their everlasting love and their loyalty.

That might be the most absurd thing I've ever heard. I literally got knocked out in a singular hit by the samurai man. And that woman, I heard him say 'Paku', must've been one of my soulmates. Which one though, I couldn't tell until we touched.

As the blackness slowly faded from the girl's mind and body, she slowly awoke, and sat up. Glancing around her, she saw nothing, and proceeded to hurriedly prepare going back where she came from. But just then, the aura of seven figures emanated dangerously towards her, forcing her to back down. She had not noticed them when she first awoke, what a rookie mistake. Now the little lady was cornered by a pack of hungry hunters.

Out of the blue, when Paku called me, I didn't expect such a... rare and precious catch. Paku informed me that she had found our soulmate, our precious little destined other. Y/N L/N. A beautiful flower, waiting to be picked by its owners. By us. By me.

"My limbs, those who share the same wisteria mark as I do, return immediately to our base. Our little flower has been captured," was the only message I left, before retreating with Shalnark, Feitan, and Phinks.

Boss told us when we were in the middle of our mindless bank robberies that the woman Y/N was found. What a fucking disappointment, just as Fei and I were about to see who would decapitate the most guards! Fucking Y/N. Damnmit Paku, just another 5 minutes would have sufficed. Now I have pent up rage inside of me, the Y/N woman better be able to pack a punch.

Y/N L/N. Foreign name. Not from Meteor City. From York New City. As Chrollo said, that girl is... the soulmate of ours. Wonder... her Nen potential how strong? Withstand, Pain Packer... or torture?

Heard Paku call Chrollo saying...Y/N L/N found and taken...to base. Not interested in meeting her..but I want to test..pain tolerance. Is it... allowed?

Phinks... follow Leader. He said... go base, see new girl, see her.

"Cute, endearing, amazing new toy to mess with" were some of the first thoughts that popped up in the mind of the manipulator with a bat-phone clasped permanently into his left hand. He hadn't managed to find an actual picture of her, to the dismay of the troupe and the boss, but with the picture he saw Pakunoda sent to Chrollo, he was instantly enamoured. Her sleeping face radiated purity and the atmosphere surrounding the troupe when they were kids. Unblackened by the world around them.

Now that he saw the face of his destined other, he vowed to never lose her, like how he and his family lost their spark.

↬ Author's Note:

Honestly, it would be far too hard for the main character, who just started official training and Nen training to outsmart and outrun the troupe, who've trained in Nen and battle prowess over the years and have honed to a high level, so there's no way they're going to make a miracle escape (not unless they know what the Spiders are capable of and to utilise their weakness to get away). So the main character is unfortunately captured by none other than their soulmates! C:

→ Using an alias [Evelyn] was something I didn't think quite through (it may be useful at some later point, to be decided as I am still writing the story, but most likely will not be mentioned as frequently)

Extra: The update schedule will hopefully remain consistent, as I am trying to write at least one chapter when I publish new parts to keep the story flowing! Thank you for your patience, it is much appreciated!
