A/N - im back bitches ☺️

Nashville, Tennessee, 2006

She glared at you from across the cafeteria, as usual, with those oh-so piercing blue eyes. It's common knowledge around here that Taylor has an egregious reputation. Well, maybe you exaggerated that, but she's still been one hell of an asshole to you. Her stare could only be described as intimidating, so you chose not to meet it.

You and your friends spent most of your lunchtime conversing and barely picking at the unappetizing cafeteria food. Rice that looked undercooked, dry chicken, and stale bread. You wanted to get out of this hellhole as soon as possible.

Jack was in your peripheral vision. He walked by your table and slipped you a note. Though he was already making his way to Taylor's side by the time you looked up and opened your mouth to greet him. You rolled your eyes with a scoff.

"Just read it," your best friend said, who was seated right across from you.

"No shit, sherlock." You responded, as you had already been unfolding it. "Did you think I was gonna wipe my ass with it?"

"With everything you say about Taylor, I'm pretty sure all your shit comes from your mouth."

"I mean, she gets on every last one of my nerves. Don't blame me for that, blame her."

"You're obsessed with her."

You were suddenly feeling defensive about it. "Am not!"

"Yeah, okay," she said. "Whatever helps you sleep at night."

It was difficult to not roll your eyes and scoff once again.

You forced yourself to laugh for a brief moment before finally looking back down at the paper. Its punched holes were torn, like Jack had ripped it straight out of his notebook. Not to mention the barely legible handwriting. It was clear Jack had thrown this note together in about half a minute.

party at 9:30 later
anyone can come

There was an address at the bottom of the letter that you didn't recognize. You assume it to be Jack's house, or maybe some student's that you never talked to this school year. Either way, it doesn't matter to you. As long as someone you know is at that party, you'll just cling to them the entire time.

And you already decided who that someone would be.

"Jaina," You looked up at your best friend.

"I don't know what you're about to say to me, but it better not be something batshit."

"It's not! I promise!"

She crossed her arms and tilted her head, like the human embodiment of skepticism.

"Will you go to a party with me later?" You flipped the paper around so she could read the note, holding it tight in your fingers. "Please—"

"You need me to drive you there."

"That too." You said in a quieter voice, but then going back to your normal tone. "But can't I just want to spend time with you, my bestie? So, please?"

"Yeah, fine," Jaina agreed. "You can stay at my house before the party and I'll take you home tomorrow afternoon. That's all the driving I'm doing."

"Oh my God, thank you!" You ran to her side of the table to hug her, not caring what looks people around you might give.

The rest of the day was passing quickly. The bell sounded loudly, signifying the end of lunch and the soon-to-be torturous English class. Your certainty of your essay being graded an F wasn't very unreasonable, considering that you didn't understand what you were writing either. It would only be a matter of time before you would see that marking in bright red ink on the paper.
