Just as everyone started relaxing after a long week on the island, another special exam was thrust upon our shoulders without warning.
While we benefited significantly from the island exam, the other classes would definitely have their guard up against us this time around. While that usually wouldn't hinder our success too much, the nature of the exam made it necessary for us to prepare.
Our largest problem, without a doubt, is the possibility of other classes teaming up against us, especially after some of the 'unethical' stunts Miharu came up with on the island.
Our relationship with Class B had become unstable after the 'poisoning incident' on the island benefited our class. The only thing stopping our classes from becoming outright enemies was the possibility that Ryuuen's spy was responsible.
With Class C, Ryuuen is probably out for our blood this time.
And while Class A suffered complete humiliation on the island at our hands, their current leader Katsuragi doesn't like to take risks, making their class a wild card.
With all of these controversial relationships, as well as the exam's lack of flexibility, we have to act fast.
"Heya, Ayanokouji-kun!"
Kushida called out to me, approaching me from the opposite side of the ship's front deck.
"Hey."
"Don't just 'hey' me. Why did you call me out here?" She playfully asked.
Despite her playful attitude, she was hugging herself in an attempt to stay warm, and her hair was flying and violently changing direction with the wind.
"Sorry about this, Kushida. It's necessary that this conversation isn't overheard."
She perked up at those words.
"Ohh? Could it be-"
"Kiyo-kuuun! You'll never guess what Ryuuen-chan said to me earlier!"
Before Kushida could continue, Miharu burst through the doors to the ship's interior, followed by Matsushita with a bemused expression.
"It's almost 11 PM. Maybe keep it down?" I said.
With this, the meeting made to ensure our victory began.
"So, Kushida. We called you out here tonight because we need your help."
"Eh? Me?"
The three of us nodded in unison, although Matsushita was just following along.
"It's something only you can do," Miharu said with a solemn expression.
"...I can't think of anything that I can do better than you guys, but I'll do my best."
Kushida clenched her fists in determination, mirroring Miharu's attitude.
"Haah, don't worry!" Miharu, who was likely analysing Kushida's deceptive habits, did a complete 180 and boasted a bright smile.
"We just need to make a group chat with the whole class, and you're friends with pretty much everyone. Are you up for the job?"
"Hehe, don't tease me like that, Hasegawa-san!"
Kushida's body completely relaxed, and her response was tailored perfectly to the conversation.
Humans are social creatures. It's natural that everyone sometimes hides their emotions for any reason. When it comes to Kushida, however, I have never felt a trace of genuineness from her actions, and her subconscious queues often displayed signs of intense distress that went unnoticed by the rest of the class.
